New Rebel Player list advice and what to buy next

By gusminator, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I am new to armada, have played the lerarn to play "scenario" and one 400pt game without objectives. Some tips on adjusting my played list would be veru appriciated as there are so mayn things to thing about its quite overwhelming for a new player :)

The list i played during the 400pt is below

MC80 Command Cruiser
-Admiral Ackbar
-Raymus Antilles
-Cluster Bombs
-Enhanced Armament
-Defiance

Nebulon Escort Frigate
-Wing Commander
-Slaved Turrets
-Redemption

CR90 B
-Overload Pulse
-Engineering Team
-Dondonnas Pride

Squads
-Luke
-Wedge
-Dutch
-B-wing squad
-X-wing Squad
-A-wing Squad

What i liked with this list was the die pool you could get from the side arcs on the MC80 and i loved the synergy between Dutch and Wedge. Not sure how i felt about the Nebulon and CR90.

Any tips or ideas what i could change in the list in regards of what i own today (se below) and if I where to buy only one more expansion what would you recommend and what would that list look like :)

-Core set
-Rebel Squadron expansion
-Homeone Expansion
-CR90 expansion
-Victory class star destoryer expansion

Thanks!

Ok, so there is a lot to talk about here, bear with me.

* Ackbar is great on the MC-80, and pretty good on the CR-90 (though I think he works better on CR-90A’s than -90B’s, others disagree), but he is pretty terrible for Nebulons. The reason is because they very much do not want to show their side arcs at the enemy — they only have 1 shield over there, and they have no Redirect tokens.
* The Redemption is the weakest of the three Nebulon-B titles. Yavaris is generally the title most people put on their Escort Frigate, and Salvation is good on the Support Frigate, but I think both of those come in the Neb-B expansion.
* Honestly, if you are sticking with Ackbar, I’d probably drop the Neb-B altogether and add in your other CR-90, but make both of them CR-90A’s. Drop the Dodonna’s Pride title, and add Jaina’s Light instead. Run them naked since you don’t have Turbolaser Reroute Circuits. Alternatively, you could try Slaved Turrets on them. Not bad with Ackbar. You get to throw 4 red dice out of either your side arc or your front arc.
* Drop the Cluster Bombs from the MC-80. A better use for the defensive retrofit is Electronic Countermeasures or even Reinforced Blast Doors.
* Raymus Antilles is a good officer, but I prefer Wallex Blissex or Lando Calrissian for the MC-80. Really, any of the three are great though. (I realize in retrospect, you only have Ray.)
* I prefer the Assault Cruiser to the Command Cruiser, but you could go either way.
* You really want Leading Shots on the MC-80 to give you a way to reroll all of those red dice.
* I think I would drop Luke from your squadrons. I would also drop the B-Wings — they are hard to use because of how slow they are. Instead, I would try to get Tycho Celchu in there, and more generic X-Wings.

Try this:

Starter Fleet
Author: bb4

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 396/400

Commander: Admiral Ackbar

Assault Objective: Advanced Gunnery
Defense Objective: Contested Outpost
Navigation Objective: Dangerous Territory

[ flagship ] MC80 Command Cruiser (106 points)
- Admiral Ackbar ( 38 points)
- Defiance ( 5 points)
- Raymus Antilles ( 7 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Enhanced Armament ( 10 points)
- Leading Shots ( 4 points)
= 177 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- Jainas Light ( 2 points)
- Leia Organa ( 3 points)
- Slaved Turrets ( 6 points)
= 55 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- Slaved Turrets ( 6 points)
= 50 total ship cost

1 Wedge Antilles ( 19 points)
1 "Dutch" Vander ( 16 points)
1 Tycho Celchu ( 16 points)
1 A-Wing Squadron ( 11 points)
4 X-Wing Squadrons ( 52 points)

As for which expansion you should get next...I recommend the MC-30. It is probably the strongest ship in the Rebel arsenal. But there are other good ones too, depending on what you want out of the game. Rogues and Villains is an outstanding squadron expansion, as is Rebel Squadrons II. The GR-75 expansion is a great support ship. The Nebulon-B expansion gets you the Yavaris and Salvation titles, both of which are strong.

Good luck!

Much appriciated you took the time! Will look into this list and also the MC30! :)

CR90A's really want TRC's (Turbolaser Reroute Circuits) to maximize its damage output

Stonestokes gave some good advice

As with most gamea when we first start playing we overload some piece with too many moving parts.

As rebels, you will often lose a ship in order to make nore damage on the enemy. Keep your little ships cheap and your big ships hard to kill and if you are going to lose a ship, make sure you trade up or kill a bigger more expensive ship in return for the sacrifice
