The Scum and Villainy Open

Greetings denizens of the galaxy. It’s our birthday! It’s been 4 years since the first episode and to celebrate we’re hosting a throwback tournament! One has never been done online before and we figured since we’re the oldest podcast still around it’d only be fitting.

The Format

Every ship that was released up until the T-70 and Tie F/O expansions are legal. That means everything that was at 2015 Worlds, the third year Paul won it, plus all the pilots and upgrades from those two ship expansions are legal. Additionally, the pilots and titles from the Heroes of the Resistance, Guns for Hire, C-Roc, the Imperial Assault Carrier and Imperial Veterans will also be allowed but the upgrades from those expansions will not be. That means Rey pilot but no Rey crew and Omega Leader but no Kallus. The current FAQ will also be the one we follow which means Palp is legal but in his current state and no double stressing k-wings, sorry Aaron! The format will also be a hangar bay style in which players are able to submit two lists if they choose to do so and reveal them only right before their game is slated to begin. We will be doing the standard swiss and cut to single elimination, the amount of games overall will be determined based on the amount of players. The tournament will be played on vassal and follow vassal league rules where applicable, namely the 19 turn limit on games.

While I am intrigued and fascinated, why pick a throwback that still allows some Force Awakens toys but not the rest?

I was kind of expecting based on the first line for it to be either much more restrictive on which year, or perhaps Original Trilogy only.

This is not an objection at all, I'm just curious as to your methodology. :)

If you're referring to the restriction on pilots only we just felt like a lot of the upgrades, namely the ones in Guns for Hire were just too good to be allowed in a wave 7.5 tournament and that it would throw the balance out of whack.

Count me in! Is this going to be a one game a week kind of deal? Also whens the due date?

Also which version of Hangar Bay are we doing? Theres 3 different versions out there now.

We'll probably leave registration open up till the end of February and yeah shoot for one game a week.

Added another question. :P

Makes sense, it was the last time this game was good.

Man, I should really figure out how to play on vassal now that I finally have a computer...

Bump edited first post as it didn't clarify entirely what was and wasn't allowed.

Which hangar bay rules are you using @blairbunke?

Duplicate upgrades between lists are fine.

Wait, so T-70 is not on the list of legal ships, while Tie-FO is? That looks like a typo

Tis fixed

Can you submit 2 lists from same faction?

I'm signing up. Just deciding my options...

This is my question too. I am unreasonably excited about this!

Antigrapist answered this for us in the vassal league slack channel in random so I'll pass it along.

He said yes you can.

Motion to call this tournament "A More Civilized Age"?

2 lists of the same faction are fine.

where do u sign up?

Oh dang, totally missed this. Would have been extremely down. Happy flying, ya'll!

Posting this here as I couldn't find 4 of the registered players e-mails here are the round 1 pairings and player lists https://tabletop.to/scum-and-villainy-open/rounds/ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1z6HwAA9mjFyqh-N1p4iwJcp7GiriW4GTMvSGvbJA-po/edit?usp=sharing

I didn't realise we were meant to enter 2x lists. Can I thrown in a second list to use? If not that's cool, I should probably read these things more carefully.

I took the liberty to add a channel in the Vassal League slack.

To request an invite, use this link: https://xwingvassalleagueslack.herokuapp.com/

If you're already a participant of the Vassal League (s5 or s6), then you don't really need to use the above link.

Once you're a member, use this address: https://xwvl.slack.com/ and go to #s_and_v_open

I have a feeling it's going to be more elegant than "reply to all" in a 50+ email circle...
