3rd Ed. What have you done with the game??

By Kardinalen, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Is the game now Warhammer Quest, Battle or RPG???
This is in my opinion taking the game out of its originality and looks more like W.Quest mixed with W.Battle
To be honest I can rather play the old Warhammer Quest instead of playing the 3rd Ed.
The game is no longer dynamic in changing the careers or as unique as it was. It is no longer WFRP even if you use the Warhammer World.
I think that you have lost track and should reconsider it hard…
And what of 2nd Ed. Can we expect more material for this? or have you ended its lineage altogether?

Sorry to say I give 3rd Ed. Thumb Down.

We usually fight about one combat per session..prior to 3e, we were mostly playing 4E D&D in the Warhammer world (with careers even). We found that "more crappy rules" for your character didn't make for a better session. 3e's fine in my opinion.

I think it comes down to player character background development and GM style.

jh

Well, the simple answer to your opening question is that they went and made a better game, at least in my opinion.

"Is the game now Warhammer Quest, Battle or RPG???"

RPG, clearly.

"This is in my opinion taking the game out of its originality and looks more like W.Quest mixed with W.Battle"

That's fine, but I doubt anyone could maintain that opinion after playing the game.

"To be honest I can rather play the old Warhammer Quest instead of playing the 3rd Ed."

Then perhaps you should, though you'll be missing out on a very dynamic and fun game. I'd strongly recommend giving it a shot. I think you'll find it shares very little with Warhammer Quest apart from the franchise name.

"The game is no longer dynamic in changing the careers or as unique as it was. It is no longer WFRP even if you use the Warhammer World."

Again, I think that would be a hard position to maintain after playing the game. I've been playing WFRP since the 1st Edition was new and this is my favorite version of the game to date.

"I think that you have lost track and should reconsider it hard…"

I really hope they don't. I think FFG is very much on the right track with this one.

"And what of 2nd Ed. Can we expect more material for this? or have you ended its lineage altogether?"

The latter is usually what happens when a new edition of a game come outs.

What would be the point of making a new edition if they were just going to rehash the previous edition?

Both 1st and 2nd are available for those who like want to play them. There's nothing stopping you from continuing with those games. 2ed has quite a bit of material, a lot of which can still be purchased as a PDF.

It's probably the best RPG I've ever played. It's far from a boardgame. If it's not your cup of tea, well there's two other editions to pick from but I've had some serious RPG fun from this one.

Wow - did we really need another of these posts? There are countless other`similar threads here and elsewhere where you could have added your startling revelations.

To answer your question - I am playing and enjoying this wonderful new edition of the game.

I have to agree with TonyACT on this. There are a number of other threads making similar arguments on these forums as well as other forums. I do not have a problem with people criticizing the game, but the opening post seemed like it was just a rant presenting opinions that have been thoroughly discussed before and to which the OP didn't really add anything to. If you play the game it is very difficult to make the argument that it isn't an RPG, as has been acknowledged by the overwhelming majority of posters who have played the game (at least that I have seen over the last several months).

I think you'll always have a bit of a letdown coming from a rules system or edition which had a large amount of material to a new edition. You have to give it time.

I'm certainly somewhat disappointed by the apparent lack of content in the core set regarding long-term play, but I am also confident that the material will be released before too much of the player base exhausts what exists. If FFG is thinking only of the customer, they will release the material we want. If they are thinking only of the bottom line, they will release the material we want. I'm willing to wager they're thinking of both, so you'll be just fine.

Most of the people who seem to be having the issue are those who started as soon as the edition was released, and are playing a fairly heavy session every week. Unfortunately, that goes with the territory when you play this way.

you are a troll.

It sounds like you have only read about it and not tried playing it.

For instance, the other games you mention (quest, battle) all use miniatures, 3rd don't need that.

Have you actually played the game? I'm completely baffled by this post. I could understand these posts half a year ago when noone had really tried the game, it does look a bit boardgamish before you actually try it. But now? The game has some problems but the issues you raise are not even remotely true. You compare it to WH quest and Warhammer battle? Weird, it has nothing in common with these games but for the setting.

"as unique as it was"

No it's now a lot more unique than it used to be. This is of course my own opinion, but the old career system was not very good. It looked nice on paper and was fun to read about, but in play it was just meh. I don't even know what you mean by "dynamic in changing careers"?

Troll alarm ! Where are you, dwarf slayers !?

It goes with the territory when you play with an unfinished system. Wouldn't have happened in 2nd edition.

it is definitely a Roleplaying Game! One of the really good ones.
And, though there are not enough action cards in the core box, for me it's fun to create my own. I made about 22 of them! If one Action or talent is missing I create it. I even sit at my laptop creating action and career cards, when I watch TV with my wife... gran_risa.gif

MEANWHILE, back at the Strike-to Stun forums...

Kardinalen: "Doods! I totally went on the FFG forums and bashed their game!"

some guy: "Awww yeeah. That'll show them."

Kardinalen: "Yup. Okay, who's turn is it to go over there and accuse those fanBOIS of never accepting ANY criticism of their precious ROLLplaying game?"

some guy 2: "Me! Me! I'm a lvl 20 Smug Lord. They'll never know what hit'em."

"EXCELSIOR!"

...i kid. Negative opinions are welcome here. No game is perfect.

fun post ! you earn 1 advancement (or 100XP under V2 :) )

I just rolled four hammers, 3 boons, a sigmars comet and hit the OP with two criticals. According to my house rules I have to roll two fortune dice. LUCKY both ended up on boons, +6 damage and I reroll both, another boon, +3 damage extra and another reroll, no boon.

That's 5+6+3+6+3 = 23 damage total.

Since a snotling has a soak of 2 and 5 wounds, the OP has to be considered dead beyond all shadow of a doubt.
