yes, I tried it, it for sure helps with the tempo... I don't think it's a bad idea because depending on the matchup I think I averaged 2 missiles per gunboat per game during regionals (aside from my last game where I reloaded 5 times with one boat!).... so for tempo reasons, sure why not. but there are usually better places to spend the points (I used my 4 for initiative bid)

I've seen it. If you like Kylo+2Boats, but you're no good with Kylo, and/or just want to fly QuickDraw instead, it gives you something to do with the points besides having a 10 point bid or whatever. Keeps the boats threatening for two turns in a row instead of the usual "shoot and leave" flight pattern.

I've used it before with some success. Works well if you don't take Arsenal Loadout but the Assault configuration. That gives you a canon for those times when your target locked victim is out of arc.
