One Blister Tournament

By JohnWE, in X-Wing

If you had to enter a 1v1 tournament and you could only bring one ship and only use the upgrade cards available in its blister, what would you choose? (for each blister size) No point limit!

Example

Small

Ello Asty (41)

T-70 X-Wing (30), Targeting Astromech (2), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Weapons Guidance (2), Cool Hand (1), Integrated Astromech (0)

Medium

Guri (43)
StarViper (30), Calculation (1), Ion Torpedoes (5), Virago (1), Autothrusters (2), Accuracy Corrector (3), Inertial Dampeners (1)

What are your picks?

Omega Leader Juke Comm Relay.

Miranda TLT and stuff.

32 points

“Quickdraw” (32)
Special Forces TIE (29), Wired (1), Collision Detector (0), Sensor Cluster (2), Special Ops Training (0)

Does “Heroes of the Resistance” count as “one blister?” What about Epic ships? The Raider + a TIE advanced would be pretty brutal. :P

Assuming those don’t qualify and you only mean ships that come in the small plastic blisters, I’m afraid Miranda would dominate that tournament. Even nowadays she tends to only use a couple upgrades that don’t come in her pack, and she could manage just fine without them.

Yeah, gotta say I think Miranda with every upgrade in the pack (except of course the second TLT) is pretty obviously the best choice for a large blister.

Even without the fix titles, a TIE Defender might actually be the best pick for a small blister.

Small:

TIE Phantom - Whisper, Fire Control System, Recon Specialist, ACD

Medium:

Scum Captain Nym - Everything

I think a PS8 TIE Defender is going to make a PS7 Whisper very, very sad... :(

can I choose the Saw pack?

A Wookiee.

Empire : Tie Striker : Duchess have all she need to fly, a cheap ace who can arc dodge thanks to her ailerons and you have the choice to use it or not)

Rebels : Auzituck Gunship : The PS1 is a nightmare with his ability to block and have good health. And for 1 vs 1 Wullffwarro could be dangerous.

Scum : Kihraxz Fighter : With homming missiles, predator and glitterstim, Talone cobra can't fail...

First Order : Tie/Fo : Or Omega Leader pack, nothing to said more...

Resistance : T-70 (where my A-Wing FFG ? :( ) well the least cool choice here but can be fun ! :)

Yeah, that's a great idea....

Small Blister:

Imperial - TIE Defender, Rexler Brath PS8, Outmanuver, Ion Pulse Missiles, Ion Cannon, Munitions Failsafe

First Order - TIE SF, Quickdraw PS9, Spec Ops Training, Wired, Collision Detector, Sensor Cluster

Rebel (Auztuck would be smart, but I'd fly) - A-Wing, Tycho Celchu PS8, Push the Limit, Homing Missiles

Resistance - T-70, Ello Asty PS7, Targeting Astromech, Cool Hand, Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Integrated Astromech, Weapons Guidance

Scum - Protectorate Starfighter, Fenn Rau PS9, Concord Dawn Protector, Fearlessness

Medium Blister:

Yeah, yeah...that nonsense that is the Miranda or maybe the uber-flying-brick Nym ; who cares there?!? Rebels win on both, Scum comes in second and there is no Imperial for this slot worth flying....yes, we cry for you oh Punisher .

Large:
YT-2400

Dash
Lone Wolf
Heavy Laser Canon
Lando
Experimental Interface

Imperial: Omega Leader, Juke, Comm Relay, all day every day.

Rebel: Wulfwarro, Tactician, Breach Specialist, Intimidation, Hull Upgrade. Or Wulffwarro with Commandos and a Hull Upgrade.

Scum: Fenn Rau, Fearlessness, title. Or Scum Nym with Cad Bane, Synched turret, bomblets, cruise missiles, Reflexes and a Seismic torpedo.

are you saying 1 ship vs 1 ship at uneven point totals? or hundred point list built from multiples of a single expansion?

and what the hellis a "medium" ship?

The medium ships are the larger blister packs. They generally have a slightly higher standard price than the small blister packs ($20 instead of $15 in the US) but are still small-base ships and come in blisters rather than boxes as the large-base ships do. K-Wings are a good example.

thats a large blister.

there are small blister, large blister, and then 6 different box sizes. a "blister pack" has a notch in the top to hang on a vending rack, and the "blister" name comes frm the hump or "blister" the product is housedin. normally this is heat sealed along the seam of 2 pieces of a hard plastic shell. the millenium falcon for example comes in a cardboard box with thremoformed plastic packaging but is not in a blister pack, while a k-wing comes in a blister

in order for a "medium" blister to exist a larger size would need to exist

Just for the record, the question asked was "what is a medium ship" and the answer I gave was "the larger blister."

yes.

Calling small ships that come out of a large blister "medium" is confusing but we're on the same page now

Definitely not the jump master...

Pretty easy,

Guri

-accuracy corrector

-auto thrusters

-Calculation

-Virago

-Inertial Dampers

- Ion torpedos

1v1 guri is an absolute beast, and her main drawback (point cost) is irrelevant in this format.

4Lom pilot with Zuckuss crew ( 4Lom to destress and as control element), cloaking device, Mist Hunter, Tractor Beam, Adaptability.

Pretty punchy when one blister, not the best, but certainly one of most thematic solutions :)

I was just wondering "What if X-Wing had a similar format to CCGs where people buy several booster packs and use them to play a tournament." And, what is the most powerful ship with the cards included is intriguing to me. Sounds like Miranda with her built in Regen is pretty powerful.

If you want to take this outside of "blister" range, go for it! I just wanted to have the same size packages compete, because they generally have the same number of upgrade cards. For the smallest box sizes, I'd imagine that up until the nerf Jumpmaster 5000 would have won no prob, but now I'd put my money on TIE Silencer. Or, you could get a PS10 Imperial Boba for the movement advantage....

Isn't the StarViper is priced with the bigger blisters? If so Guri would be going up against a fully loaded Miranda. Don't get me wrong, I might go with Guri too because she's more fun to fly, but it's hard to argue that that's a favorable matchup for Guri.

Guri > tlt

If you can keep out of mirandas front arc you should be ok... keeping range one will be much harder but she wont have any re positioning so you should be able to do it as long as you are a good pilot. My money would be on guri in this fight, all guri's actions would be for re-positioning and defense relying on Accuracy corrector to ensure the damage. defensively guri is extremely strong vs TLT's and should be able to withstand miranda's damage without much issue.

You make a mistake with guri you are in a tight spot but if you can get in behind miranda you should win.

(if miranda had boost you are done... no chance, but she doesn't in this format.)
