What to pair with imperial stressbot

By Browncoat50, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Tomax Bren: Crack Shot, tie shuttle, tactician, death troopers, LWF. 31 pts

Doesn't deal a ton of damage but has a lot of stress utility. What would you pair with such a list?

Death Troopers are a double crew.

That's right. Well then, no tactician

I think the best way to go with stress shuttle for the imperials is probably snap/tactician rhymer. double stressing at range 2 is incredibly powerful if you have the right wingmates.

Nothing stops you doing both, technically. Although that's probably spending too many points on stress tactics.

Snap Shot Rhymer is certainly the more effective - delivering stress early enough to prevent boosts and SLAM moves - but then it has it's limitations too:

  • Range 2 in arc is a decent sized block of the board, but it requires your opponent to go there rather than you to move your ship somewhere. Add in Rhymer's high(ish) PS meaning PS6 and below move before him, and whilst he's a devastating Ace-hunter, he can be avoided.
  • Rhymer can only stress a maximum of two ships a turn.

Rhymer is a better choice. But at 32 points (assuming lightweight frame and no second crew slot) he costs about the same as the aces he's hunting. A Stressbuggy costs a comparatively modest 20 points with lightweight frame thrown in - enough that you can sub one in for a generic striker or interceptor in a heavy swarm, for example, or drop 12 points on another ship (enough to replace a cut-price omega leader with a no-expense-spared darth vader, for example).

Rhymer is good but i think he had his day when the meta was heavily weighted to K-Wings, Stopping them poor souls sad enough to get into R2 is great fun, "I'll Slam away" urm no ******* won't sonny jim..

Plus let's face it there is a lot of 'Poon and bombers are not very meaty.

Stress is kinda my Jam, i built most of my list around a stress mechanic. ATM I like Striden with, the Kylo Title and the Troopers. Push the ability out and he's handing stress out to anyone getting too closes. Comes in at 36pts which is What you would pay for Ryhmer with LWF, Tactician, Rebel Captive, SnapShot.

In exchange you get; someone who is gonna draw fire, has meat to take shots, and the 4 dice primary is a bonus.

I normally fly X7 delta and a Vessery, though Ryad swaps in and out nicely.

@Magnus Grendel What's this 20pt stressbuggy you memtion? O.o

Edit: I'm guessing it's a Scimitar with Tactician and LWF lol

Scimitar with Death Troopers and Lightweight Frame.

Works like a sort of reverse rebel captive - anyone with the shuttle in arc at range 1-3 that doesn't fire at it takes a stress token.

With 6 hull and 3 defence dice, it's not exactly flimsy, and it can draw a lot of fire.

I love it. I have list ready made that has a scimitar built like this with Quickdraw and 2 starwings. If you shoot at my SF or starwings, I can stress you, if you shoot at my bomber, I don't really care because you're not shooting at my heavy hitters.
