A friend for Dengar?

By Wookiee_Slayer, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So here is my Dengar:

Dengar

  • Veteran Instincts
  • Recon Specialist
  • Punishing One

Total: 49 pts

So I have no idea what to table with this guy, so I am asking for your help.

A few guidelines:

  • It doesn't have to be competitive
  • Dengar can be changed, but please explain why
  • Please do not exceed 100 points, initiative is welcome (if neccesary)
  • Have experience? Tell me!

Thanks in advance!

My two cents:

Dengar (33)
Veteran Instincts (1)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Punishing One (12)

Captain Nym (Scum) (30)
Trick Shot (0)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Extra Munitions (2)
Harpoon Missiles (4)
Cad Bane (2)
Bomblet Generator (3)
Proximity Mines (3)
Guidance Chips (0)

Total: 99

Recon Specialist to K4 for free target locks, action to focus means stronger punch when attacking.

Nym with Trick shot and TLT (a combo I am addicted to). EM & Harpoon Missiles (because they are excessively good, Chips for the crit). And Cad+Proxies for the scum Nym free evades.

I strongly concur with changing Dengar's crew buddy to a K4 Security Droid. For sheer action economy, you get a virtually guaranteed target lock (as long as you can dial a green), plus the choice of another action (barrel roll for arc management, focus for offense or defense). While Veteran Instincts helps him mitigate some damage via arc-dodging, I might suggest Expertise, if you can fit the points. It works for both his main and revenge shots, making him an offensive powerhouse.

One good wingmate for him is Timewalk Asajj, thanks to her beefiness and speed. She can hurtle across the board wreaking havoc at high speed, while he relentlessly follows his prey:

  • Dengar (52 total)
    • Expertise
    • K4 Security
    • Punishing One
  • Asajj Ventress (48 total)
    • Lone Wolf
    • Latts Razi
    • Glitterstim
    • Glitterstim
    • Countermeasures

Ignore me, Asajj as kitted by @emeraldbeacon is SO MUCH better (and more fun) to fly.

Local guy in our group is running Asajj like this (plus title) with Jabba the Hutt on Bossk, so good! He get's 4 uses of Glitterstim which is just insanely good. [Obviously you can't do this without dropping Dengar, as his cockpit doesn't have room for Almighty Jabba]

I like Bossk as a partner to Dengar myself. Put 4-Lom, Zuckuss and an Inspiring Recruit on him (plus a Mangler Cannon) and he can hit pretty hard. If doing this, I would swap VI to Predator on Dengar and put VI on Bossk. This is so they are both PS9 and you can choose the activation order when it matters. Also, Predator works well with his pilot ability as it allows you a re-roll or two each time he attacks, rather than being restricted to once as you would be with a target lock.

However, the main reason for having Dengar and Bossk is so you can name your fleet after a portmanteau of their names. Bengar, Bongar, Dessk - there really are few bad options here.

I saw this the other day:

Dengar: Lone Wolf, Gonk, Burnout SLAM, Experimental Interface

Nym: I don't recall what was on him, but I think it was Autoblaster and Trajectory Simulator. Tossing bombs forward which you can ignore is pretty cool.

Gee, good work @theBitterFig ... we all have been asked for Dengar-friend advice, and all I can say is "some Nym I don't recall." Still, that was a very cool looking Dengar. Take some hits in the early engagement, perhaps SLAM out, but at least start Gonking up, and perhaps by the time they've switched to and killed Nym, your Dengar is back to full shields.

My favourite Debgar Build is:

Lone Wolf

Recon Specialist

Title

Countermeasures

Scavenger Crane

You lose the PS11, but Lone Wolf is soooo good for Dengar. This build really maximises his defence making people seriously think twice before shooting him.

This build is more points though

Anyway... as a wingman I quite like Boba (VI, Engine Upgrade), but taking 3 Z’s with Harpoon / Cruise missiles would be good too.

My favourite Dengar atm has to be

Dengar (33)

Wired (1)

Maul (3)

Punishing One (12)

This allows him to use his dial to his full potential as he's not restricted to green with K4 or whites with expertise. With this guy I fly Nym:

Nym (30)

VI (1)

TLT (6)

Extra Munitions (2)

Harpoons (4)

Bomblet Gen (3)

Havoc (0)

Long Ranged Scanners (0)

Acc Corrector (3)

Genius (0)

Total - 99/100

You can choose between GC and LRS

I also love Dengar w/ Title, Wired, and Maul. I didn't used to, but I now can't not see the beauty of it. Very versatile, reasonably cheap, etc etc.

A Nym does pair quite well with it - I could also see a PTL/Latts Asajj being strong. However, you could also easily pair it with 2 ships:

Jakku Gunrunner w/ the Tractor Array, Pattern Analyzer, and Ketsu is BRUTAL, really weakens the target for Dengar, and can help get it in arc for Dengar's double tap.

It leaves plenty of room for a cheap little ace like an M3, Thweek, etc etc

Interesting Dengar setup. I figure on attack, you Maul for one die to gain stress, then Wired another die as needed? Do you ever carry stress over after the attack, for defensive purposes?

If Dengar will get counter attack then sometimes but usually I choose a focus as my action and keep it for defence

Anyhow, flew against that Dengar with Fenn/Ghost. **** Gonk did work. My opponent had to have regained at least 5 shields that game. I got some absurd Green dice luck and won (with Zeb last Lasat standing!), but still. That's a strong Dengar.
