AT-ST/Speeder Bike Paint Suggestions

By player2801864, in Star Wars: Legion

As many others likely are, I’m entirely new to miniature assembly, painting, etc. However, after numerous hours spent watching Sorastro and other tutorials and some practice on Reaper minis from my FLGS, I think I’m ready for March 22.

However, I’m nervous about color matching the AT-ST and Speeder Bikes.

For the Speeder Bikes, I think I want use Vallejo’s Hammered Copper, but it seems a bit too shiny. Not sure if I should mix it with something or if there is a better option.

For the AT-ST, any suggestions on grays?

For the bikes you could try mixing the copper with a brown shade to take some of the sheen out of it.

As for grey I like Hippo grey, but that's just me

AT-ST... base coat of grey auto primer, some Apple Barrel Pewter Grey (make sure to thin it), then take your pick of wargaming/model acrylic whites (I like the P3 one personally) and shade it up to whatever grey you like.

Alternatively you could just take Country Grey and hit it with a low intensity magic wash/India ink combo.

Sorastro is posting a video for spider bikes shortly. He noted it in his Patreon channel. Just wait to see what he's doing and then try to get a decent color match in your paint line of choice.

^this. sickness pushed back his schedule but the imp half of the core set was on his to do list after IA Ashoka.

I think Vallejo's copper mixed with a bit of their German Grey would probably dull the former pretty nicely. You could also just start with straight copper and then add more and more layers of wash until you get the results you'd like. Would take longer that way, but there's less "risk" in starting off too dark by blending your base colors.

Tamiya's AS-2 / Light Grey is, opinion, a perfect hue for most of the Star Wars vehicles. Their light grey primer an awesome product. Small aerosol/rattle cans with a fine mist and extremely smooth.

Copper will look way too metallic IMHO, the bikes are painted brown.

the citadel warm brown formula's look perfect, (highlight/shading around skrag brown)
