Hera and Sato? With Scurrg friends? Yay scurrg friends!
47 minutes ago, Ardaedhel said:I don't mean to insult your intelligence here by spelling this out in detail, so please don't take it that way. But what you said doesn't jive with what I'm picturing. It does not take 3 blockers to do this. If your goal were to hold the ISD in place, yes, it takes multiple blockers; if your goal is to keep it out of Close range from a kiting/avoiding target, one is plenty.
So, just so we're talking about the same thing, this is what I mean when I say to block it:
Rebel interposes a sacrificial ship (flotilla, corvette, whatever) between Avenger and its quarry during the Pryce turn such that the blocker is far enough away that Avenger is unlikely to pop it from range. He keeps the quarry far enough back that Avenger isn't going to get into range without overlapping the blocker. This is what I'm talking about when I say you can counter the "guaranteed" Pryce last/first with a blocker.
edit: obviously this is just a fundamental example. A real game will have lots more complicating factors in play, but analyzing a whole game isn't my goal here.
The Zapp Brannigan comment was just around the idea that on a high level, we are telling players to keep their points hog alive by feeding the ISD something just big enough to stop it for a turn. The irony of stopping an ISD by flying into its front arc isn’t lost on me.
I didn’t take it all all the wrong way. We are talking about the same thing. Even in your example, the ISD was not actually blocked. Clicking on the second notch or a Navigate command allow you to go around and smoke the AFmk2.
I would actually love a series of diagrams from players who play TTS or vassal or some other system where perfect top down “pictures” can be taken of effective blocking. Examples would be very welcome as my experience has been that blocking is not effective in any way without using at least 2 (usually 3) blockers. By the time I have enough, I’ve nearly built the fleet (1+X) that I’m trying to counter.
For context, I usually face either Vader or Jerjerrod ISD1 AvengerBTs with Hondo for worrying about tokens.

I played it pretty fast and loose with the placement because the point is not to exhaustively demonstrate perfect blocking but to get the point across. But if you're after an example of perfectly blocking a last/first that is enabled by Pryce (not by natural activation advantage), this is ideal positioning when Pryce's BTVenger goes to activate at the end of round X-1 (meaning the AF2 and GR75 have already activated for the round):
I've given the ISD Jerry, Pryce, and a nav command--the worst-case scenario for trying to block it, as far as I can tell--and I can't get a Close range opening shot at the AF2. As you can see, I've got a fair amount of wiggle room on the positioning for the AF2.
Compare that to the threat range on an unblocked ISD, and you can see that blocking can be extremely effective:
edit: Attached the .vsav for the setup if you don't believe me and see a way you think the ISD can get a shot here.

I approve of this message and that diagram. That is exactly what I wanted to see.
This stuff is why the BTA is also a Cymoon - you cannot use flotillas to block a Vader Cymoon

To all of you and the other relentlessly nerdy ****ers:
Keep it ip. Humor and sane conversation makes these boards better than most.
If these upgrades have offended,
think but this and all is mended;
that you have some options here,
despite the cruiser which appeared,
and double arcs your arquitens;
with ACM’s and deadly beams,
Plebs, you do not comprehend,
so git gud, your fleet to mend;
And as I am honest as f—k,
I’ll tell you friend that you s__k,
Now the chubbo can begin her song,
Ill ground your fleet to dust ere long,
Else the Mad a liar call,
so go f—k yourselves y’all
I dont fly my ships to make friends,
I fly them to tear up rear ends
