The Arrestor Cruiser

That's why I'm waiting to actually see it on screen before I pass final jugment.

I guess I was thinking capital ship and used by a major faction. if I am remembering correctly this was a ship made from scrap yard junk by pirates, I mean they also put tie fighter engines and wings on an at-st's head and flew that around.

Actually, that's the Tie/Experiment 1. It's not an "ugly" fighter, although some would argue that :)

Yea cause the Rebels need a heavy black dice brawler.

opps my image slipped in.

Uh, we had a slight close range attack malfunction for a minute there. But, uh, everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

The Arrestor is something directly out of 2001, Blake's 7 or Space 1999. It's very 60s/70s and not in a good way (unlike the Liberator or Moon Base Alpha Eagle). I don't mind applying some original concept art (original Chewie was spotted in Maz's castle and the original XW is OK) but this thing should have been left filed in the grey cylindrical cabinet in the corner of the office.

I wish they had stuck closer to the concept art like we see here. You can see strong ties to the Executor, and the Prequel Triangles. I think that strong bow looks nice. Still not sold on the dishes.

I would actually be ok with the dishes being weapons, if they were built as a proof of concept for the super laser firing system. Dont misunderstand me here. I am not talking about this being, in any way, a super weapon. What I am referring to is the actual mechanism where the 8 beams converge from the dish to create a single beam. This type of weapons is seen in only 2 locations in canon, the Death Stars, and that silly Bladewing from Rebels. The Empire would have built a proof of concept, and what better way to hide its actual purpose than to utilize it as an experimental weapons system on a new class of ship.

My point is, I don't mind them using old concept art, as long as it fits the story as a whole, in a well thought out way.

But seriously, we really should finally get to see a VSD on screen! This would be an excellent time period for it to appear. Come on, don't drop that ball!

Your thinking “uglies”. Although the m1 is ugly, it was actually part of an imperial project to experiment with radical tie designs. Most of the others in the line aren’t too bad, but the m1 is probably the most hideous ship design in all of sci-fi.

A dish weapon with multiple beams converging and creating a single beam was used on the side guns of the republic gunship in attack of the clones.

Also, I think, on the big laser artillery pieces that brought down the launching federation sphere in the same battle, but I’m not sure about that.

Ok. Where? All I see is a victory and a bunch of the lame, boring, “cylinders with bumps” style ships. Are there good looking ships hiding in the picture somewhere?

Well isn't that a nice, polite euphemism.

You know, I thought that was another example, but even when I searched for imaof the LATT gunship, I couldn't find this, and figured I imagined it.

Stun cannon tanks use beams capable of draining a targets energy, unlike the composite beam lasers which (death star) destroyed a target.

The larger SPHA-T does have a "real laser" rather than a stun beam though:

Yeah, that’s the one I was thinking of. Yoda ordered the clones to concentrate fire on one of the trade federation spheres as it attempted to take off from geonosis.

A heavy turbolaser not a composite beam like the death star or LATT.

Real laser? Yes not arguing there at all.

In the original post however the two examples are different weapon types @Forgottenlore

It had multiple beams converging in front of the dish with the primary beam shooting out from that point.

Hahaha fair enough :)

Ill blame film makers for using the wrong type of weapondry ;)

Boring... Maybe. But at least they are Star Wars.

The Dreadnaught could be use by both faction, the Lancer could help alot against squadrons and the Carrack... Well this one is obviously not my prefered but could fill the role he was made to be, a small light cruiser.

I'm thrilled to see the pre-star destroyers make it back to the universe. The cantwell protos are really cool, and now that star wars is big we don't have to worry about getting lost next to forgotten titles like space 1999.

I don't get it. People complain about everything triangles, then a non triangle shows up and everyone loses thier minds? It's perfect. The dishes are odd, but the hull shape is sound, and I'd love to see these in the fleet.

Oh I forgot that we only need rebel pimpels and Imperial Pizza slices, perhaps put TIE-Wings on it. Surley "cylinders" are just a silly geometric form, I guess you would like cubes better? Or should we just add wings for better space flight? Perhaps a little tower here and there to hide your inner princess?

do the side dishes fold out?

.... sounds like im describing an overdesigned menu at a restaurant.

But it’s still triangles. There’s a fat backwards one in the rear, with a long skinny attached to it pointing forward.

The problem is that people don’t find this arrangement particularly attractive. They might warm up to it, and It might look far better in the movie itself. As of right now though, the single image we have from the hot wheels package is pretty uninspiring.

Agreed, I am not using a Hot Wheels sculpt to form my final opinion of this ship.

I am...

... still want to toss it at the wall, see if it sticks...

I think the hot wheels art is chunkier than I'd want out of the arrestor... Almost expected to see it in rebels because of it
