Build advice for using almost 600xp

By TheShard, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So my charecter Major Moz Fenris was built hurriedly to join a game. His specs are scout, big game hunter assassin.

I'm not sure if i picked the right specs to mechanically represent my charecters fluff... And has given me the go ahead to retool if i want.

So the charecter has gone through three distinct phases in his life I'm trying to represent.

First he's a shistavan, whoop seed in the waining days of the old republic. Young eager idealistic believer in the best of what the old republic stood for. Trained in the old republic as a scout, was recruited into the Antarian Rangers and worked along side the jedi explorer corps.

Recruited to lead a commando unit during the clone wars. He was in heavy combat, often in inhospitable areas or behind enemy lines.

3rd phase is him going AWOL after order 66. He already became disillusioned over the growing beaueocracy, the use of clones as cannon fodder pushed him to his limits and order 66 was the final straw.

He hid out in the far outer rim eventually settling down as a hermit survivalist living among a tribal Inuit like people who live off the tundra.

What 3 specs would yall suggest?

Things i want

Stealth, good shooting, and helpful to allies

An alternative build could be Soldier: Trailblazer, Sharpshooter, Vanguard.

Trailblazer/sharpshooter is a great suggestion @Edgehawk .

I'm not sure if this combination mixes well with a Vanguard. It certainly contributes to the idea of "helpful to allies", but I imagine is more close quarter combat, guns blazing combo. If you take Vanguard, Bodyguard is a strong pair but It should be taken as soon as possible to lower the hit on XP.

Trailblazer helps with Prime positions, Blind Spot and Disorient. It's really good!

Yeah.. with Vanguard , I was mostly going along with the "he was in heavy combat" backstory, and figured it would be "helpful to allies."

And.. the Vanguard in the sourcebook is actually depicted as a Shistavanen.

The Vanguard is fantastic. One of my favorite specs, and as you mention, is the most "helpful to allies" soldier spec

I agree that Vanguard is helpful to allies, but I would change things up a little. Trailblazer; Vanguard; Medic. Or you could change it up to EoE and go with Scout; Big Game Hunter as you mentioned before and add either Bodyguard or Medic.

No medic he's not much of a healer... I'm thinking talents that aid the team offensively, defensively, or Maybe even socially.

How about Marshal? Hiding out among the native tribes, he could have become a trusted outsider who is asked to settle disputes and uncover truths hidden by cultural traditions. Good Cop/Bad Cop can help out a lot in social encounters. Plus 2 ranks in Point Blank for when the old Hunter gets caught in a close quarters fight.

What specs would you combine with it?

All I was thinking when I read the description was Trailblazer.

How you support your fellow pc’s is up to you, Mercenary Soldier would be a good choice to bolster both your combat and support abilities. Warleader is another excellent choice, the left side could represent your experience fighting alongside Jedi. Otherwise Vanguard is excellent with the Bodyguard series of talents.

Then last of all I would take one of the soldier Signature Abilities, both are awesome, The Bigger They Are is awesome for hunting wild animals in the ice shelf’s.

I'd go Trailblazer/Vanguard, and possibly dip into Sharpshooter, but there should be plenty in the first two trees to cover every base of your backstory.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait...

Wait just one dang minute...

600xp??

How long has your group been playing!?

3 phases doesn't have to mean 3 specs,

Trailblazer is good,

Vanguard or commando next but this is optional, trailblazer could cover it

Maybe Gunslinger fpr a disillusioned phase it synergizes well with vanguard.

@TheShard

I would start Soldier Trailblazer and add Sharpshooter.

I'm curious:

A) Exactly how much XP do you have?

B) Can you get +10 initial XP from Obligation or Duty?

I have 570 xp and yes i can get 10 extra xp from obligation

I just joined but the group had posted once a week for almost 2 years.

@TheShard Here's a suggestion of how I would build him. Do with it as you please. :)

You might try building him with OggDude's Char Generator to double-check my math.

Shistavanen Soldier Sharpshooter/ Trailblazer

B2 A4 I3 C3 W2 P1 (+10 Obligation)

Starting Spec: Sharpshooter

Free Skills: Athletics 1, Ranged (Hvy) 2, Ranged (Lt) 2, Survival 2

570 Earned XP:

Buy Trailblazer spec (20 XP)

Skills (160 XP):

Athletics 2, Kn-Outer Rim 1, Kn-Warfare 1, Medicine 2, Perception 3, Piloting (Planetary) 1 (non-career), Piloting (Space) 1 (non-career), Ranged (Hvy) 3, Ranged (Lt) 3, Stealth 3, Survival 3

Sharpshooter Talents (165 XP):

COLUMN

XP. A. B. C. D.

5. Y. Y. Y. Y

10. Y. Y. Y. N

15. N. Y. Y. Y

20. N. Y. N. N

25. Y. Y. N. N

Trailblazer Talents (225 XP):

COLUMN

XP. A. B. C. D.

5. Y. Y. Y. Y

10. Y. Y. N. N

15. Y. Y. Y. N

20. Y. Y. N. N

25. Y. Y. Y. Y

Use Dedication from Trailblazer to increase Cunning to 4.

BTW: I gave him some Piloting skills to leverage his Agility and increase his utility. With a 3 Intellect, you could easily take a rank in Astrogation, Computers and/or Mechanics instead (as non-career skills) to be a "backup" for someone focused on any of those skills.
