WIP Tatooine Board

By Dardenator, in Star Wars: Legion

Ok So this is our first time trying something like this. A buddy and I have been planning this for awhile and we got started this evening. We started with a 2" thick 4'x8' sheet of Dow foam. Then we built a bunker using 1/2 cardboard smooth lined foam board and 3 small cardboard pallet boxes to form the dune that the bunker is in. We then used 5 minute drywall compound to paper mache the dune as well as a flat surface on the remainder of the board. It looks more like Hoth at the moment, but when we get the paint on it hopefully it will look like Tatooine. Also the bunker passes through.

What do you guys think so far? I'll post progress pics as we make progress.

Looks great! Are you going to be putting down sand, only painting, or both? What sort of scatter terrain are you looking to populate the map with?

We have some textured paint in rattle cans that hopefully will look like sand after painted... If not we have some Vallejo Desert Sand paste, but we are hoping it doesn't resort to that because it would take awhile. You can see some of the scatter terrain we have in the background of a few of the pics. We have some Imperial Terrain stuff and some Tatooine houses that we built. Then some Misc crates etc... We pretty much have enough to populate the whole board if we so choose.

Thanks for the kind words. We are super excited to get going on the game when we get it... Now with the choice we made of making the board all 1 piece instead of tiles I just have to figure out where I'm going to store this thing without my wife killing me lol.

Kinda hard to hide a 4x8 from the wife . Put it in the back of the honda civic?

Lol

What Civic holds a flat 4x8??

Looks great, if the spraypaint texture doesn't satisfy you can try spreading caulk and rolling real sand into it. Takes a long time to dry but I was satisfied with the results.
