CC Redux, Fleet Build Advice

By Thalomen, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

A friend and I are going to replay CC. While I'm better at maneuver and tactic, my friend is better at the card building and usually beats me because he's a better cheese monger.

Anyway, Im building some lists and want to get some feed back. First up a JJ/Victory fleet. I have the Gozantis purely for repair.

Please feel free to make suggestions on the objectives too. Im terrible with those.

Thanks in advance.

You face a serious danger of running into a rebel Fleet with two VCX. Without strategic, two of your objectives can backfire on you very badly. Even if you don't run into a rebel Fleet with strategic, you don't have it for yourself to take full advantage of those objectives.

Given the slow Victory-class Star Destroyers, and the number of squadrons, consider Station Assault. It's not the most popular, but you can camp on the stations with the VSDs and the squadrons, letting the Rebels come to you.

I'm not the best judge, but I'm not a fan of Opening Salvo for that Fleet. You don't have enough combat ships to make it really effective, and you don't have something ridiculous like and ISD that's not going to have any damage on it at the end of the game.

Finally, you have a huge Squadron Force, but nothing with Bomber! I'm not sure where you're going with that. You should probably reconsider either going with a much smaller Squadron force or taking or taking Squadrons with Bomber.

Station assault makes sense, so I changed to it.

What would you suggest for assault objective.

The reason I don't have bombers is because my opponent usually plays a very aggressive fighter game. Imperial fighters seem to melt away in from of the Rebel fighters, so I end up going heavy on non-bomber fighters to tie down my opponent.

Does your friend go for a heavy bomber squadron, or mostly fighters? How many points and how many aces?

If all you want to do is kill his fighters, switch to an Imperial Flying Circus with aces who give you lots of synergy.

Station Assault is an assault objective ;)

Excuse me, I meant Defense Objective.

Could you describe the fighter wing your friend uses?

He usually relies on A-wings a lot with the occasional ace, but those change frequently. The only constant are the A-wings. Lately there have been E-wings and some Z-75s to serve as speed bumps.

He’s always very aggressive and has as large a fighter force as he can. I do my best to lock him with my fighters to slow it halt his bombing runs.

OK, so it's not really a bomber force. Lots of misses on crit rolls.

You should be able to work him over endlessly with a smaller Squadron build for pinning, depending on which aces you can take. Steele + Jendon as the core. Ciena Ree ignores Counter from standard A-wings and they can't afford to attack her because her Counter is as good as their attack and she has defense tokens. Mauler because A-wings have low hull.

Those provide a serious core for 73 points. That's too big for a small squadron complement and too small for a large complement, but you should be able to murder his squadron wing completely. Make sure you have enough to push them as needed and add a Raider with Flechette Torpedoes, if needed.

Sounds good. Ill amend accordingly. Thanks!

My opponent does tend to be a cheddar player. He once rammed my slightly damaged ISD with a fresh Liberty head on and just sat there until he destroyed my ship. It was, frankly, infuriating, but a legit, if cheesy, tactic by the rules.
