Why Are You Bad At X-Wing?

By Boom Owl, in X-Wing

I am bad at X-Wing because I...

  • ...don't use Whisper anymore
  • ...joust when I shouldn't
  • ...go slow when I shouldn't
  • ...re-position when I should focus/evade
  • ...put my first rock in the wrong place
  • ...always have at least a 2-4 pt bid
  • ...lose during the place forces phase
  • ...lose to Assaj
  • ...lose to Rey
  • ...lose to Dash/Poe
  • ...lose to Defenders
  • ...lose to Quad TLT
  • ...am bad at math

Why are you bad at X-Wing?

What is your 1.0 crutch?

I'm bad a X-wing because I love flying non-TLT Hawks.

That’ll do it.

The only way to fly the Moldy Crow is Jan Ors, Kyle Katarn crew, and Blaster Turret! :D

im bad because i use deathrain. ans think hes insanely good lol

I am bad at X-Wing because I...

-actually just like flying Dash Rendar

-staple VI to everything

-joust literally everything with literally anything

-use Rey on everything possible

-use actions dumb and as a result have Crackshot and still miss

-get excited and keep making moves faster and faster until I do something stupid and kill my own ship

-pay more attention to theme than gameplay (i.e. only fly GUNBOATS with GUNS.)

My goal is to somehow use some sort of T-65 spam to get more good at this game. I actually had a lot of fun with four Rookies with Proton Torps and Guidance Chips, so we'll see if the new expansion makes them even more fun. I just wish Bomber-based ordnance was as fun as GUNBOATS, because it feels more thematically ok.

.... because I have nearly every expansion but only fly 3 Rebel ships - YT-1300, YT-2400, and T-70 (Poe)

... because I know there are objectively better lists to fly, but I won’t touch them.

... because I hate scum faction and won’t fly it

... because I hate Palptine, and won’t fly him.

...because I have to use a different list every time I play.

I'm bad at X-wing because I can't play a strong game beginning to end. I either start strong and squander it , or mess up royally at the beginning and have to climb out of the hole in the second half. And that's how I win, losing is even worse.

I am bad because...

  • ...I don't play enough
  • ...I dislike bombs
  • ...I play against the meta grain
  • ...I like ships that suck (to varying degrees)
  • ...I have too much of an ego to assume I am doing something wrong
  • ...I won't pay for Huge ships (yet)
  • ...I fly off the board
  • ...I fly into obstacles
  • ...I misjudge distances
  • ...I always lose the Pilot Skill battle (I almost never use Veteran Instincts)

There. I think that about covers them.

So much this. Best response so far.

This one time at a tournament I was pretty **** sure I was finally playing a near "perfect" game...right up until the last few rounds.

Recognizing when your making correct decisions is super hard.

Knowing when my decisions are even the reason for a game that went well is even more confusing.

Because I come up with a game plan and win condition turning the place rocks step only to forget all about it on turn 3

Because I go out of my way to put at least 1 HWK or Scyk into any list I fky... Currently running a list that is just 2 of each

Recognizing Win Conditions is a seriously Advanced X-Wing concept.

The first 3 rounds are so tricky...

  • Where do I put my ships?
  • How fast do I go?
  • What direction do I go?
  • Who should flank?
  • How do I get all of my ships to overlap the same spot without being next to each other?
  • Who do I shoot first?
  • When do I save tokens for defense?
  • Whats my game plan?

Even having a game plan at all is next level X-Wing play.

Clears Throat and roll play as a Nerf Herder.*

I'm not Bad, it is just the only way to win is to play cancer. If you win with a Fat Han TLT Palp Biggs Jumpmaster Wookies then you are truly a bad player.

:P

If you want fluff then you should only be flying them with Concussion Missiles. :)

...but how do you actually know your bad at X-Wing?

No one "wins" with Wookies. Their opponents would just rather their arms stay in their sockets. ;)

because I have no tournament winning/placings because the only way to play X-wing is competitive standard (every thing else is playing X-wing wrong) :P

I am bad because...

• I usually move my ships faster or slower than intended

• I prefer to fly funny lists rather than top tier ships

• I have an inexplicable attraction towards asteroids

• My own ships are so in love, they always try to hug each other (with disastrous consequences)

• I don't play as much as I wanted

I' bad because I rely on podcasts with content to learn from...but then when they say they have content there's no information.

Such a long list, but two that really stand out and regularly lose me games:

I think „yolo, what could go wrong? And even if, how bad can it be?!“ That is, I have those lapses in seriousness when I really stop caring about winning. It bugs me later, especially when the correct call (eg running away) crossed my mind and I dismissed it because it‘s lame. But it isn‘t, not when I want to try to win.

The second is playing for my opponent. Reminding triggers, tokens, actions, good options, good maneuvers. It‘s not fair for myself and not fair for my opponent.

I guess you are right... Maybe is not that people who do that are bad because of that, but it's difficult to obtain as good results as with "better" squadrons

1 - I fly a lot of jank

2 - I don't like flying things that make it unfun for my opponent

3 - I love rolling lots of red dice

4 - I don't think 2-3 turns a head like I should.

5 - my love for everything A-Wing
