Objective Format X Wing League in the Great White North

By Supernaut, in X-Wing

Up in the North we organized an Objective Format X Wing League that uses the objectives created by the podcast community. Players (18) are grouped into 2 pools and are assigned an objective (sometimes they must do random) and compete in a round robin format. The Top 4 from each pool carry on to playoffs.

A few added rules:

1. A unique pilot can only be flown once in the preliminary rounds ;

2. Two or more generic pilots of the same ship can only be flown together once in the preliminary rounds; and

3. All proxies allowed.

This format has created interesting list building and strategies. Players have to think of the objective, which remaining pilots will perform best, which have pilots has their opponent used, what are the tendencies of their opponent, etc.

Our community is excited about it and I encourage other communities to give something similar a try. I would like to thank Gold Squadron, Krayts and Mynocks and whoever else is involved for providing additional enjoyment to the game. I would like to thank Ryan Farmer for creating the objective cards (we professionally printed the objectives onto sets of cards to hand out to the players, they look great) as well.

Cheers

as a side note... if anyone has figured out how to break objective 5 so I can take down the Calgary Regional winner with my hands tied behind my back that would be appreciated... #goingtogetschooled

Is this just out West?

If this is Bryson, and he has Dash, his weakness is the shins. Kick him and hide his shield tokens.

By the by, he schooled me hard.

Yup. Bryson. Sounds about right.

Good luck to you guys. Sounds like a fun day.

@Supernaut, are you going to tell us what the objectives are? It seems like that would be much more interesting info to share with the community rather than just the fact that you’re doing some event with them that 99% of us won’t be able to attend. ;)

as mentioned we are running a league (over the course of a few weeks) using the podcast's collaborative alternative objectives format. Same thing they did for Krayt Cup 3. The difference is, that since we are not doing this all in one day, there is a squad building restriction. (as @LagJanson posted earlier https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/265439-alternative-play-format-objectives-for-x-wing/)

For example, Supernaut and I played our first match (objective 3) which is essentially a king of the hill. he brought Dengar Assaj and I brought 4 Rookie X-Wings with flight assist and a Z95 Bandit. For the rest of the league he cannot use Dengar or Assaj. I also cannot run a pair of generic T65's for the rest of the tournament. For most of us this is our first time trying the objectives, so it will be trial and error, developing strategies ahead of time, trying to input optimal squad use. As per the podcast I don't think there is 1 squad that dominates all...but there maybe a squad that dominates a certain objective, and the trick is to see if your right...

@Brunas any house rules you'd recommend for this?
