Star Wars End of the Republic idea query

By copperbell, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Been hankering for a Clone Wars era AoR game and been wondering can I alter existing releases for that era instead of the OT?

Would you find this interesting?

I'm thinking along the lines that shortly after the start of the Clone Wars the Republic would attempt to establish forward bases in preparation and these spark off additional world's joining the Separatist cause.

So use the Beginner game to establish a Separatist unit securing a secret and illegal listening post this leads to the reveal the Republic are targeting an old base where multiple factions are meeting to decide upon the latest diplomatic overtures from the Republic only the Republic are using this event to decapitate the leadership for these groups even though they're supposed to be negotiating.

Does that sound viable maybe with access to the Dawn of Rebellion book?

Absolutely. This system is so versatile; most anything can be reskinned with little or no effort. The existing books throw in a lot of Clone Wars era equipment so you'll have little trouble running in that timeline.

The only thing that might be a point of concern is that neither the Grand Army of the Republic or the Confederacy of Independent Systems is are strapped for resources (manpower, vehicles, supplies, credits) as the Alliance was.

So PCs that are affiliated or directly working for either the GAR or the CIS are generally going to be better-equipped or have readier access to better qualities of gear than a typical group of Alliance PCs.

To put it into perspective, the Alliance loosing an entire wing of starfighters to a failed assault (such as in the Rebel Assault episode of Rebels) is a significant point of concern, not only for the loss of skilled pilots but also in terms of lost starfighters and astromechs. For the GAR or CIS, the loss of starfighters would barely be a blip, and CIS isn't worried about loss of life given their use of droids for the bulk of their combat ops.

If the PCs are mercenaries (something that the CIS made frequent use of in Legend), then it makes sense they wouldn't have access to the full largesse of the CIS, with their "Duty" reflecting the level of trust the PCs have earned. Same would hold true for the GAR as well I suppose, but from what I recall they tended to rely more on their Clone Troopers than bands of mercenaries for most combat operations.

If you are looking for some other clone wars era stuff I'd suggest also getting your mitts on the following books at some point. They aren't compulsory but it cuts down on homebrew time:

chronicles of the gatekeeper. If only for the droideka stats.

Stay on Target has the battle droid blaster carbine.

Magnaguards are in force and destiny. Along with Jedi starfighters

Forged in battle has some Clone vehicles and weapons.

I am probably missing some other stuff too.

The CIS was rather desperate at the end of the war. Also, you could have smaller resistance movements cut off from the rest of their forces.

For example, let’s imagine a planet in the northern part of the Expansion Region, near the end of the war. Now, obviously, this is an Expansion Region planet, so it has probably been owned and screwed over by some corporation or another. Throw in some primitive native species that is more or less enslaved. Immigrant workers are in a similar situation. And, since the megacorps qualify as “functional constituencies” in the Republic, (as of 128 BBY) almost all of this planet’s problems can come back to the corruption in the Republic Senate letting the megacorps do what they want. Obviously, the people who live on the planet want to join the CIS, but the people who own the planet want to stay in the Republic. Now, it’s the end of the war, so the CIS in the northern parts of the galaxy have been badly driven back. But, the people on this planet are very sympathetic to the CIS, so they decide to sneak a small force into enemy territory to try to make a difference. They send about a hundred droids to a small base hidden on the planet in addition to an elite squad including the Quarren Commander-Tactician Qirgg Voz, the Nosaurian Soldier-Trailblazer Golor Sharphorn, the Verpine Engineer-Mechanic Zyz T’x, and the Aleena Ace-Hotshot Manchi Pyell. Once they arrive, perhaps they are joined by human Spy-Courier Dalis Rato, who already had been resisting the Republic on the planet.

And boom, there you go. It’s essentially your average Age of Rebellion Game.

Also, I’m not trying to go against the original idea in the first post. This was just an example of how to put a CIS team in an Age of Rebellion sort of situation.

Edge Of The Empire has the 'antiquated battle droid' that's totally-not-a-B1-honest.

Lead By Example has the Munificent-class (the droid army frigate that's not Grievous' flagship or the Trade Federation ships)

I...don't think the Vulture Droid has yet been written up anywhere officially yet? Been looking.

I've been having a search through looking for similar things; my campaign is actually a group of Imperial Navy players, and the local Rebel Scum have just found an old CIS forward staging post which had a frigate squadron docked when the droid army shut down and are figuring out how to reactivate it....
