Help me pick a regional list.

By migs6000, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm literally running in circles trying to figure out what I want to fly. Heavy meta? Jank? Every day I change my mind. Help me out. Anything would be appreciated.

1. Rey + 1 (99/100)

+ "Genius" (0)
YT-1300: Rey (45 + 13)
+ Expertise (4)
+ Kanan Jarrus (3)
+ Finn (5)
+ Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

2. Ran something like this a few years ago in a decent sized Tournament and it did relatively well. Just updated it.

======================
YT-1300: Rey (45 + 13)
+ Expertise (4)

K-Wing: Miranda Doni (29 + 13)
+ Twin Laser Turret (6)
+ Harpoon Missiles (4)
+ C-3PO (3)
+ Long-Range Scanners (0)

3. Do I want to be that guy? I'm sure there will be a lot of these.

Rebel Tank (99/100)

Sheathipede-class Shuttle: Fenn Rau (20 + 6)
+ Veteran Instincts (1)

+ Harpoon Missiles (3)
+ Contraband Cybernetics (0)
+ Vaksai (0)
+ Guidance Chips (0)
+ Munitions Failsafe (0)

I wouldn't use list 1.

List 2 seems very strong, especially with many passive mods vs. Fenn/Ghost.

But if you want to be that guy, Fenn/Ghost is undeniably strong. Just be aware that people will be expecting it.

List 4 looks fun, but I have no idea how competitive it would be. I am less of a fan of it though, as I would want them all loaded up more than you have them.

My girl night list is an old favorite, it can put some work in. Why not on list 1? And my scum list is powerful but it can die very easily, very glass cannon.

I would also vote for bringing List 1.

To the points on list 2: It is very strong, when underestimated. People will be expecting it, we've been play testing against it in particular at our FLGS. (This lowers the odds someone is going to underestimate it...) I've figured out how to crush it with my dual Scurrg list...and Scurrgs hate TLTs

The recipe to defeat List 2 is simple:

  • Bring ships with high HP.
  • Ignore Fenn completely.
  • Target Lock, don't focus.
  • Close to Range 1, even in arc is better than being at TLT range.
  • Season until salty with bombs (to taste).

You will have a great advantage against lists that cannot sustain being at Range 1, Scurrgs have the hull and shields to take the pounding - Rebel and Imperial lists with low health ships can't. Another member of our group is running Bossk+Asajj and tabled "Rebel Tank" in <20minutes without loosing a ship (using the recipe to defeat above).

List 3: Miranda isn't what she once was-Harpoon Missiles have become her bane and you can count on running into a fistful of those.

List 4: Looks fun, but you've broken cardinal rule #1 and put Nym on the table without bombs... ;) I'd have to see this list play tested against other competitive lists before I decided if it was worth of being tabled at a Regional event...

Most of this is solid. But I have no idea what you are talking about concerning List 3. Miranda is probably still the best end game ship in X-Wing. She has bad matchups, like all ships, but harpoons are no more an annoyance to her than most other ships. And she gets to carry them as well.

I would say Miranda is the second best end game ship. (Asajj Ventress w/Latts crew is, in my experience, slightly superior.) The current issue with Miranda is, with only 1 harpoon missile per game, she cannot put out as much damage as a 2xHarpoon Missile list can deal her.

Probabilities: Harpoon Missiles w/Target Lock vs. Miranda w/Focus = 2.63 expected hits, 97.85% chance to hit. Throw Guidance chips in there and it becomes 3.63 expected hits. Miranda has 4 shields, 5 hull - if you assume both missiles hit for the statistical average (7.26 expected hits, call it 7) she's down to 2 hull in the opening engagement not accounting for the 2 damage cards received from triggering the Harpooned! condition card. Even if she runs away and does shield regeneration one uncancelled critical hit result later will kill her when both conditions go off. All the shields in the world cannot stop damage cards received from the Harpooned! condition.

Miranda is still a strong, powerful contender in this meta - she just has a vulnerability she's never experienced before. A headstrong pilot that actively SLAMs out of arc and forgoes his/her attacks in the interest of ensuring Miranda makes it to the end game can easily take the match. Essentially every list has a hard counter and I submit that 2xHarpoon Missiles is her hard counter. I also submit that there enough PS8+ 2xHarpoon Missile lists in the meta to make Miranda nervous, not nervous enough to avoid play entirely - just nervous enough to be thought about before tabled. Her biggest fear would be SLAMing Star Wings with the OS-1 title and Harpoon Missiles, in my honest opinion.

Very few people are running the title on the alphas. Mostly they are running them as cheap as possible with harpoons. And I have yet to see any, other than the list with Kylo as the third ship. And if Kylo is on the table right now, you should be able to win. He just isn’t strong enough. Also, almost all lists are running LRS over Guidance Chips.

Additionally, Miranda is the late game ship in most lists that contain her. If flown correctly, she should only really be up against one alpha in the end game at most.

I understand your points. But this is a list for a regional. Miranda is the best rebel ship. If you are going to play rebels, playing with Miranda is never a bad choice.

I am not a fan of list 1 largely because I think Nym will go down too fast - Miranda is much harder to take down, which is a good choice to put before your opponent when you are flying Rey.
