Why no love for Jonus? NuNuNu etc

By MagmaSnott, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just curious as to why people seem to preclude Jonus as an option with Alpha Strike lists? Especially now that Bomber can be titled as a carrier and hand out focus tokens etc w/ crew?

TIE Bomber: •Captain Jonus (29)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Shuttle (0)
Adrenaline Rush (1)
Fleet Officer (3)
Tactician (2)

Alpha-Class Star Wing: Nu Squadron Pilot (22)
Guidance Chips (0)
Harpoon Missiles (4)

Alpha-Class Star Wing: Nu Squadron Pilot (22)
Guidance Chips (0)
Harpoon Missiles (4)

Alpha-Class Star Wing: Nu Squadron Pilot (22)
Guidance Chips (0)
Harpoon Missiles (4)

Total: 95/100

As an example

To be clear, I understand there's huge differences in the dial movements etc, is that actually insurmountable though? Jonus himself is almost a target lock no?

If I had to venture a guess, its due to Harpoon Missile not requiring that you spend the Target Lock to fire; you already get 0-4 rerolls without needing a wingman to grant you 2, in a ship that will do no damage on its own.

In general, torpedoes and missiles have good enough modification on their own now that they don't need Jonus' help, and putting that modification on another ship is risky anyway since your whole squad gets weaker if he gets shot down. That said, he is still a ton of fun with cannon Alphas or turret Aggressors - remember, his ability works with any secondary weapon, not just ordinance.

Him with triple TLT aggressors is pretty fun.

Ah, I had no idea this had changed!

Since I knew Target Locks had to be spent (I've been out of the game and loop a very long time) I never picked up on the newer missiles it didn't say spend the target lock! Haha

Edit: I can see why Deadeye would be desirable against the Poe-BB8 bs now, you're not actually giving up the focus token lol

3am lol

That being said, Jonus is a great combo with Deadeye on the other ships. That way, you can still have double modifications (well, since Jonus is only half target lock...) without having to actually lock a target, and can even embark Guidance Chimps.

You just need a way to make Jonus survive. Light weight frame is a nice addition, and recent to the game by your standards.
