Spoiler frequency

Honest question: how do we not have a new spoiler every week?

I'm not asking for an article every week with spoilers, just leak one card a week via twitter from the next pack. We just got a notice on the new story that will be released as a book that will include promo cards. Inside that preview they showed an attachment that I'm pretty sure hasn't been previewed anywhere. They just slipped it in there.

This leads me to think that it can't be hard to have a guy just take 30 seconds every Friday to reveal one card from the next expansion.

But IDK if there is some sort of legal reason why this can't be done. I'm inclined to think that it's either laziness or the people running the show don't know people want spoilers.

I'd put it down to managing release hype. FFG is in full Star Wars mode right now with Legions release around the corner, for L5R our next release will be the Phoenix pack and I would expect the hype train for that to start about 3 weeks out from release.

Also you can't forget that they seriously jumped their production cycle with the 6 in 6 release for the first cycle so have been likely playing catch up to get to where we are at the moment which has lead to the apparent drought of releases we've been seeing since the end of the first cycle's release.

Isn't the next release supposed to be in early March? That's only 2-3 weeks away.

I mean compared to what we got prior to the Core Set the 'official' previews for the Imperial cycle were pretty lacking.

My thought is that we should be getting a weekly spoiler ever since the announcement.

It's just not FFG's system. Deal with it.

I think I remember seeing that DotV will be released in late March, so maybe another week until previews really start?

My local store owner told me mid-late april.

Personally, I'm loving this prolonged period of no new cards. It gives me (us) a chance to mess around with the current cardpool, without pressure to "keep up." Also, I have mixed feelings about spoilers - always want them but find them deflating. It's a treat to just enjoy the game as it is.

lol you guys crack me up. back in ccg days we got spoilers a couple weeks in advance of a release.... and thats it. no articles. no twitter. and then months between releases. and those releases were orders of magnitude bigger than these packs. how are they supposed to leak a card every day with teh size of these packs? y'all are crazy.

CCG was saturated with many promo cards released between standard expansions like Kotei packs, Summer (Gencon) packs, Holiday packs, Jeweled Events packs, Imperial Assembly cards and quarterly Organized Play kits. Additionaly some unexpected releases happened like Clan of Month, Temptation pieces, Imperial Gifts etc. So imho flow of spoilers was just constant and kept everyone's interest.

Also standard expansion's spoiler system was static. 4-5 weeks before street date AEG presented schedule of spoilers that were going to be shown on main page or in clan sites (forums) in some predefined order. When expansion hit shelves whole cardpool was known as many people just compiled them in text or galleries. Later these compilations was replaced by Oracle.

What are you even talking about? You are the first person that spoke about daily spoilers. Kiramode even said that we don't need articles, just a spoiler a week. We had this with AEG and the whole pqck was normally known days before the release.

Personally I think FFG should be continuing to hype each New product release like they did the core set. Even though they seemed to have a great launch there are still a ton of new potential players that are getting zero hype. All they are hearing is that L5R is a great game that needs more cards to prevent typical LCG stagnation.

Even if reprints of core sets and the 1st dynasty cycle are months away they should be hyping that along with all the things that will hit the shelves before then and keeping the momentum. Other companies are putting out and hyping their products and if you have a potential customer that is on the fence you don't want to leave their decision to a final push from word of mouth, unless you are certain that public opinion of your product will be positive.

FFG needs to get their own message out there. By keeping current customers informed they will generally improve the publics opinion of their product. This allows them to hit new customers with the same hype and excitment that they had at release so they can continue to grab new customers who may have missed the hype at launch.

Sustained product marketing is one area where I think FFG could do better with L5R. They have a lot of products they are pushing and ignoring one of them to ensure that others are successful is a double edged sword (curved or straight) that needs to be taken care of properly. In not sure how FFG balances all the marketing of their various products. Seems like it would be daunting for one person or department. Shouldn't each game have its own separate marketing person/team? If so I'd really hope that the person in charge of L5R's marketing understands the group of people he is dealing with can be highly demanding, but, we are that way for a good reason.

We are not greedy grubbers that just want FFG to give us the moon. We want the game to grow and thrive and that can't happen without a steady stream of information about all aspects of the product. There is a lot of important information we don't know and that breeds doubt, which in turn leads to negatitivity, then to hate, anger, fear........and pretty soon we all turn to the dark side, betray our masters and have to live out the rest of our lives secretly hoping for redemption. Nobody wants to live that way even if it does come with a kick *** costume and super powers. I have two daughters and I really don't want to have to fight either of them with light sabers.......especially my youngest, she is no joke.

In short: step your game up FFG
