[Help] Create an awesome FS with 150 xp

By Rithuan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Greetings!

As the title suggests, I'm looking for advice on creating a FS with 150xp, using AoR and EotE. As everyone knows by now, a FS character takes a lot of XPs.

My idea is to create a competent character for a one-shot, but I'm having difficulties to create one that is not eclipsed by a focussed character. Possible I falling on xp traps somewhere on my build.

Thanks for your help and wisdom!

FS?

FS= Force-sensitive.

AoR= Age of Rebellion

EotE= Edge of the Empire

XP= experience points

What do you want the FS to be able to do? Find the niche in the group you are building and see how a FS could accomplish that.

Face - Diplomat or Colonist/Emergent. Make sure the PC has discipline. Take Influence basic power and the first control upgrade. Take either magnitude or range to allow purchase of a second Control upgrade. This costs 60xp (20 for Emergent, 40 on the power), but now allows your Face PC to roll a force die with Coerce, Charm, Deception, Leadership, and Negotiation, and further allows them to mind trick someone on an opposed Discipline vs Discipline check. Spend the other 90xp to upgrade career stuff and round out skills. Make sure the PC has a decent Willpower.

Combat - Soldier or Hired Gun/Exile: Take Uncanny Reactions, Quick Draw, and Touch of Fate down the right side of the Exile tree for 30xp. Take the Foresee basic and first control upgrade to impact Initiative (20xp). Take Sense and the left side control upgrade to commit the Force die and upgrade all incoming attack difficulties (20xp). The remaining 60xp should go into your career to beef up the chosen combat skills and round out the character.

For 150xp, the character will be stuck with one Force die. That should limit how much gets spent on Force Powers, as the one die doesn't go very far. If I were making a spy, I'd load up on Indistinguishable, take Enhance for the Athletic upgrade, and add Move, both staying basic as you're only generating one pip most of the time.

Out of curiosity, why not use an F&D character and skip having to add another tree to be FS?

Mostly to keep it in AoR and EotE. To dispell the myth that there are no Jedi in those lines. Although is true, you can still create a competent Force-sensitive character.

That was my problem. With 150 I was trying too hard to rush for the second force dice, but in the end, it didn't leave many points for skills and Force powers. I'll take your advice and rethink the build. Thanks for the inputs.

I would focus on Enhance and the left side of Sense. These let you commit, which is far more useful with a single Force die than actually having to roll. Then maybe basic Move, just to have it as a utility.

I suggest focusing on abilities that focused character simply can't do.

Suggestion: Space wizard

Spieces: Gand.

Stats: 222231

Career:commander Spec: instructor (although any which get discipline 2 will do), force emergent 20pts

Talents: indistingishable, slight of mind, grit, touch of fate, force rating 75pts

Force Powers: 55 pts i'd recommend move or influnce.

See if your GM will allow sentinel:Racer from FaD endless vigil, it very far away from a Jedi and has a nice eote feel, go with obligation/debt gambling on your own races and losing both. If I were your gm I would totally allow that in a no FaD game. Take the enhance power

Thank you for all the suggestions and build examples.

This is a really interesting suggestion. The Racer is a great fit for this type of games. Thank you!

Just playing around with Age of Rebellion and Edge of the Empire, I built a fairly convincing Padawan-level Jedi

Gand (with lungs for the extra 10 XP), spending 40 XP to get Willpower to 4. The remaining 70 racial XP, I put into talents and towards buying Force Sensitive Emergent instead of toward Characteristics.

For skills, I started with the free rank of Discipline from being a Gand, plus Athletics, Brawl, Perception, and Vigilance from Bounty Hunter, coupled with Brawl and Discipline from Martial Artist. This gives me two ranks of Brawl and two ranks of Discipline (granted, with Brawn 2, having two ranks of Brawl isn't super impressive).

For talents, I took Grit, Iron Body, both ranks of Parry, and the first rank of Toughened from Martial Artist. From Force Sensitive Emergent, I took the 5 XP Grit, plus the line straight down to FR, giving me Indistinguishable, a third rank in Grit, Sleight of Mind, Touch of Fate, and Force Rating 2. Between the two trees and the bump to Willpower, I've used 175 XP of the 260 I have to play around with (110 starting, 150 for Knight level).

With the remaining XP, I bought the base power of Move, along with a Strength upgrade, a Range upgrade, and the Hurl upgrade. I also bought the base Enhance, along with the Force Jump upgrade, and the second upgrade that lets you jump vertical as well as horizontal. This left me with 20 XP to either invest in talents, skills, or more Force upgrades. For this build, I bought a rank of Lightsaber and a rank of Negotiation.

Not the most impressive build ever, of course. But Force Rating 2, the Hurl upgrade from Move, a bit of Enhance, Willpower 4 with Discipline 2, and a couple ranks of Parry should let you simulate a barely trained Jedi who hasn't been using his Jedi training in the past 20+ years.

Edit: Remove the ranks in Lightsaber and Negotiation, as well as Toughened, and you have 30 XP that could instead be used to up Brawn to a 3 at character creation. Subtract the two 5XP ranks of Grit, and you could instead buy two of the Control upgrades on Enhance that let you add Force Dice to Resilience and to Brawl.

Now you have 3/2/2/2/4/1 with Discipline 2 and Brawl 2, Parry 2, Force Rating 2, and he gets to add Force Dice to his Brawl checks.

You're welcome. There aren't many FaD specs that cleanly fit in an eote game, this is one that does

BTW you could have a back story where you came in second instead of first in the big race you got in debt over, you're sure he cheated and proving it would null and void your debt.

I don't have a whole lot to add but if you are doing an exile then intense focus is one talent that totall rocks. Being able to upgrade any and every check is awesome. Some specs have true aim which is the same but only for some combat checks whereas intense focus is for any check... too bad it's not a ranked talent like true aim.

Brawn 3, Agility 4 Presence 3 Wookiee. Tactician. FS Emergent straight down to Force Rating. Ebb/Flow Force Power.

leader of a rebel cell.

Gunslinger would probably be good too
