(Spoilers) Solo - Millenium Falcon

By That Blasted Samophlange, in X-Wing

it is only a 'marketable feature' if it has no relevance to the story in the film. if it is plot relevant, it is not a marketing feature.

Porgs were a marketing feature, though they were not brainstormed as such originally. the booster on Poe's X-wing was not a marketable feature, though it did allow them to create a new toy rather than reissue the TFA one.

Star Wars has always had merchandise tie ins. it is the nature of the franchise for such to exist.

It can't just be a mod that Han pulled... It haaaaaad to be a marketable feature...

I wish I could see kids wanting to play with the sleek Lando Falcon toys but I just don’t know if kids play with SW toys anymore. It seems only disgruntled middle aged dudes play with SW toys, especially if there’s rules to see who ‘wins’.

Why is there so much controversy about a space ship having removable parts? Real world space ships have had removable parts for half a century!!

Big surprise guys, that hollow space between the mandibles on the Falcon had a special module designed to make the ship look awesome, but Han is a gross smuggler so he keeps his ship looking like crap but spends his money on what really counts, like overpowered hyper drives and big guns and missiles.

Lando is a lady’s man and so made his ship look like something you could cruise the galaxy in but didn’t quit have the armament or secret smuggling stuff that scoundrels love.

Nostalgia goggles basically.

I just don't like how toyetic it is, is all.

If you never liked something you can't have nostalgia goggles for it. I never cared about The Falcon.

In my opinion, the little shuttle thing on the front is going to kill of Qi'ra.

Considering that she and beckett aren't in the original trilogy, they're probably on the chopping block from the get go.

Having them betray Han and Lando, steal the little shuttle and attempt to beat them to the end of the kessel run and then get obliterated by whatever that tentacle monster we see in the trailer is would round of their characters nicely and ditch this dam*ed shuttle.

I was at the Toy Convention. LEGO’s security makes Snoke’s laughable.

Those are legit photos. The media was not supposed to leak photos though. We were definitely not allowed to use our phone cameras.

I can attest to Lego’s security. It is no joke.

See.. there is no winning with fans. If it was not shown people will say that it is plot hole and why didn't they show what happens, and if they do show people will complain that it is something just to sell toys.

Then I must ask; why are you here? ?

So.. now that we have reveals that it is indeed a ship, and since it is from two different toy companies, it is likely a plot point, however minor or major we don't know yet.

Lets try some conjecture as to what it will do in game - at this point out guessing could end up being as accurate as FFG’s official releases of movie related products, going by past track record.

I’m thinking similar to the ghost docking. But a very cheap ship, TIE fighter pricing, but maybe a dial like the HWK-290. Illicit slot.

Tobias Beckett and Qi’Ra as pilots/crew.

The main Falcon will have Scum Lando and Han, maybe Chewbacca.

Not being in the OT doesn't mean they're going to die.

It's a big freaking universe.

Doesn't necessarily mean they're going to LIVE either, mind.

It'll be a ghost/phantom style thing, I don't have any doubt.

All they gotta do is say, "yo han took this chunk of metal off!" and we're good..!

I get the joke, but two things.

1: Because while I don't much care for the Falcon, not only am I quite enamored with this new variant (I like sleek, long things), and I'm interested to find out whatever information about it that I can. Besides, I don't lament all that much of Disney's Star Wars, but this pod ejection thing may be the first that I actually hate if it happens.

2: I design starships for fun. Look at this.

742QfJ7.png

z5qQzQQ.png
Some of the second one is still in a draft phase (and will remain as such as I have little intent to finish this vessel, sadly.) but this is just a thing I do for fun and killing time.

So when I see interesting new aspects or discrepancies about classic ships, I get curious. Then the answer as to why it's different becomes mildly horrifying if it's toyetic as ****.

This. A million times this, holy s**t.

Yet you judged the design before learning why it does what it supposedly does.

I still don't quite understand why people think 'being designed to sell toys' is particularly a bad thing. It's only a bad thing if 'being designed to sell toys' makes the story worse as a result.

No.

No, I judged the concept that the front MUST come off. Instead of just being part of the ship.

Look, it's just... It's very lame in this case? "Pew pew! Away goes the front end! Now the Falcon is The Falcon you know and love..!"

Where's my hackjob montage where Han and Chewie plasma torch all the plating off themselves, climbing down and looking at it, arms on each other's shoulders with a quiet, "We did this. This is ours."?

That's way better than, "ABANDON SHIP, PSSHHEEEOOOOOWWWWWWWWW"

There is always the chance that Han and Lando do the double cross and eject Tobias and Qi’Ra. Not likely, but possible.

Escape pod I can deal with.

Mini ship, I cannot.

Consider this.

All the marketing features refer to it as the "mini ship."

Were it canonically a ship wouldn't it have a proper name?

Unless it's canonically called Mini-Ship." *shudder*

It's much more likely to be some sort of cargo pod for dropping your shipment at the first sign of an Imperial cruiser.

I'm not seeing the issue at all. I just don't comprehend the problem. They're different stories, not necessarily better or worse.

It just doesn't feel right.

It appears to be armed.

Ony the toy, real model shown in the Star Wars Show doesn't have those details.

You know, this reminds me of another YT-1300 from the novels. I can't remember which one, but someone basicallycopied Han's modifications to the Falcon, but instead of concussion missile launchers on the front, they made a small launch rack for a modified A-wing.
