Epic FAQ Update

By MegaSilver, in X-Wing

WOW!!!! This is big news for Epic! Thanks for posting.

Yesssssssssss

Huge ships cannot be assigned focus, evade, or stress tokens. Therefore, huge ships cannot pay costs that require being assigned one of these tokens (such as the “Zuckuss” Upgrade card). However, huge ships can spend these tokens if a game effect allows them to do so (see “Esege Tuketu” on page 5).

Awesome.

While you can't receive stress tokens to pay costs, would Hux and Fleet Officers still work on an Imperial ship? He assigned the focus tokens first, then has to receive one stress.

Also, tinfoil hat time: they specifically put out an FAQ entry for Gonk to clarify that he can recover shields for either second on a ship with multiple sections. Scum currently has no ships with multiple sections. Why would they need to do that? SCUM EPIC CONFIRMED.

I thought the C-ROC had multiple sections, the just forgot to print the dividing line?

(forgive me I don’t play epic often, and I have never seen a croc on the table).

also YAY EPIC UPDATE!

You, my good sir, have earned yourself an internet cookie. (or madam sorry)

Edit: X-wing Fix and now an actual Epic rules update? Is it Christmas or have I died... Oh no, I'm dead aren't I? Is this all a dream? What's that? NyMiranda and Ghost Fenn are still dominating? Phew.... not dead.

wait wait wait, so huge ships cant use any effect that use stress as a payment?

So huge ships cant use Fleet Officer or Hux? wtf?

Yep, that breaks Hux and Fleet Officer. Bummer, General Hux would have done well from the bridge of a Raider.

Haha, as ironic as that is, you are correct.

Strictly from a thematic sense that is ridiculous.

I mean, technically small price to pay to keep the potential threat of Zuck/Maul on a Raider-level of firepower scum huge ship, but still....wtf! lol

I'm not sold on the Fleet Officer and Hux not working. Maul and Zuckuss say you may receive X stress tokens to do X things. Fleet officer says you may do X and then receive stress. Not exactly the same thing.

Well, it has 2 halves, but not a card for each section. So it does not have 2 sets of shields like a corvette, which is was is required for a refining statement about Gonk.

Mmmm... TECHNICALLY, Hux and fleet officer are not a Cost, but a consequence of using the action.

This very same technicality came long ago, when we where discussing Yorr interactions.

Essentially, if the ability is worded like “you may take a stress token to do X”... it IS a cost.

However, if it is worded “ Do X, then receive a stress token” it’s NOT a cost, but a consequence.

Yeah, I was just thinking of the Yorr interactions. I think Hux and Fleet Officer may actually be ok.

except they specifically mention Zuckuss as an example.

Which is why it sounds like any "receive a stress" effect doesnt work in its entirety for huge ships, not just the stress assign part.

I mostly put hux on it for flavor reasons, generally the action wasnt worth it on the raider lol

Zuckuss is precisely a example of “take a stress to do X”, hence, cost

When I first saw the title, I was thinking Epic in the sense of: Miranda nerf, Ghost nerf, harpoon nerf, x-wing buff, Fel buff, total scum nerf, etc.

But it meant Epic as in Epic.

Whew. My raider is happy again.

Surprised nobody has jumped up and down proclaiming "epic ships can't be harpooned!" yet. Sure, the missile hits, but the condition does not.

"Huge ships cannot be assigned Condition cards."

I did that in the Epic forum discussion, too tired to jump around more.

You can still do things that say "Do X- Then take stress"

You cannot do things that say "Take stress to do Y"

Also, because it drove me insane on my time on the Epic forum- Epic ships can't do free actions. Stop suggesting putting Leebo on an ebic ship.

Looks like we need a FAQ update to clarify what is a cost versus consequence

From Yorr's entry in the FAQ, (emphasys mine):

If, through his pilot ability, Captain Yorr
intercepts a stress token that is part of the
cost of triggering an ability on another ship
(such as Soontir Fel or Opportunist), that
ability’s effect does not resolve).

If Captain Yorr intercepts a stress token that
was the result of an ability (such as Push the
Limit), that ability resolves, then Yorr receives
the stress token.

Or in other words, Cost vs Result.

I did elsewhere! :)
