Nal Hutta

By ImperialOfficer, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

So I really don't like Nal Hutta.

I don't have much else, but the posting seems light and I'm itching for any chatter on IA.

So I'll just leave this here and see what daggers get thrown concerning Nal Hutta.

I really don't like Nal Hutta either. Too dirty for shiny Imperial suits.

Home of the Hutts? Obi might be wrong, It may be a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than Mos Eisley.

Agreed. Nal Hutta should definitely be the subject for the next Death Star testing.

Nal Hutta is generally kept in good shape, it's really Nar Shadaa that we need to look at purifying with Imperial fire.

"Cheesah beecha wonky Chewbacca!"

I both love and hate the crazy sight lines in the middle and the doors facing eachother at a distance down the main corridor. But I do love the way he decorated the place, including what looks like a gold statue of himself. I like the "New Ownership" better than "Spoils of Crime".

I'll never forget at Worlds when I thought I had one game in the bag. I just needed to finish off a one shot Luke Skywalker (non-jedi). He used Gideon to push him into the pit! He had 1 card left in his hand, so he could take the strain. None of my guys could make it to fall in and take a shot. They called time as I finished my last activation! ARGH!

Boy, is that ever not Nal Hutta! ;D

I have a soft spot for Jabba's Palace. It feels like the map can go wonky in a lot of different directions, and it takes a good 10-12 games to play through them all before you settle in to optimal gameplay on it. And it still has good strategic choices even after you know all that -- leaving a door closed, hiding behind mid-section walls, pouring out on round one vs holing up and preparing. Using Shyla or Chopper to shove someone into the pit ...

Y'know. Interesting stuff.

Nal hutta has grown on me, but my main issue is the deployment zones are very uneven. Though it could be argued that helps devious be even better. And raining freight should have beem worded differently so its not an auto ugnaught win. Other than that it helps some units out but unfortunately hurts others (Bantha)

It hurts every unit that can't consistently attack from 7+ range. If you are a melee heavy list vs a 7+ range list, you might as well throw in the towel.

My most recent experience was running Han/eRangers/Drokkatta and was matched vs BT w/Explosive Armaments/Drokkatta/eQuay/Hera/Devious. My opponent clearly took the red deployment zone and columned up behind the blocking terrain and wall. I hid behind........oh wait, no I didn't......there is literally no where to hide. Drok double moved to the 4 space nook in the middle to try and take advantage of everyone bunched up. Rangers were in a straight line, 1 space to the right of the box of 4 spaces of difficult terrain. Han was opposite them. What happened next was 2 shots by the opposing Drok and 1 by BT to take out all three rangers before they can activate round 2, 2 shots on my Drok with BT (he used change of plans with an eQuay to bring BT back) to take him out, and i'm left with han to combat a set of healthy eQuays, a healthy Drok, an almost dead BT, and Hera.......needless to say the 6 pts i managed that game were not gratifying.

The game even went so fast that my opponent and I sat down and played through several different ways I could have played it differently, and assuming the same dice rolls, nothing ends differently. The only thing I can see that give me a chance is if he rolls poorly and I roll amazingly.

Needless to say, not a fan of Anal Hutta.......I mean Nal Hutta

This.

I still like Nal Hutta more than I liked Anchorhead. I really hated Anchorhead.

LOL!!! Yes wrong map! I've embarrassed myself (Luke Wilson voice).

I hated Nal Hutta at first, but now I get it. If you're concerned about long range shooters, you have to stick next to the crates on "Shielded", which ain't bad because it forces your opponent to come challenge you for the objective points really and moves you up. There's not many places to hide anyway, so you might as well come all the way up. I beat a Rangers list at Nationals with my Greedo-Blaise by moving up fast and taking my lumps.

"Raining Freight" is an auto win for ugs, but otherwise the game can swing easily. Ya, your opponent can grab some quick points in the first round, but he still has to put some crates right next to you (which I realize can be bad or good).

I agree that one side is definitely favoured over the other, so there's that too.

Can you snipe the ugs if they are stuck in the top deployment zone ? or not fast enough to make a difference? I think this map is the reason we still see way more snipers than melee figures. I'm hoping the HotE maps bring out more melee figures because line of site is much more limited on several of those maps (not the emperor or Ahsoka map but the Maul I think.)

I can honestly say I've never played against an ug swarm. I've personally played a 3 ug list before ugs were cool (never thought I'd say ugs were ever cool. Who ever aspired to be an ug?) and can understand how a swarm of them can be annoying.

What I'm told by many is that it's an auto win on this map because the junk droid can grab the crates quite easily racking up tons of points fast and by the time you reach the ugs, the junk droid has decimated many of your figures. My guess is rush up and avoid the side the support is on (e-quays and/or IG-88). I hear they like picking off the ones crazy enough to approach the ugs.

Otherwise, you hope you don't get the bad fortune of drawing it as one of you games. I've been lucky so far.

I fully agree that this map keeps snipers valuable. Although, I find with Jabba's Palace there are some tricky sight lines your opponent can underestimate and having a sniper can be good.

One of the complaints I hear is that you can snipe the top deployment zone. I've hit some 10+ range shots up that way (terminal to terminal) so shooting up the middle into their deployment zone seems like a decent idea if possible. It might not make a difference if they are up12pts by the end of round 1 though and they can back up behind that tree stump.

It's true, you can. I've seen myself a Ko-Tun sniping my Vader from 13 of distance and hitting him for 6 damage actually.
In times like this i would seriously like a saber throw <_<

Ya. A focused Ranger can hit up to 17 spaces away potentially. And if they play Tools for the Job and/or Assassinate. Look out!

Doesn't really matter. Last Ugh list I played against on Raining Freight had Devious Scheme so they chose the bottom deployment zone and hid the Ughs well out of sight. You have to practically go inside their deployment zone to see them.
