So...U-Wing and Tie Reaper in wave 2?

By feydruatha, in Star Wars: Legion

So a Speed 2 transport on a 100mm base performing a double move would get a unit 18” up the board. It’d also be a sitting duck alone at the board’s halfway point

If they add some disembarking hindrances with rules, transports would make a lot of sense in game, especially for Speed 1 troopers and even occasionally Speed 2 troopers.

Yeah but we are still talking about an apc or truck, not a u-wing. It would be like a Chinook helicopter transporting people back and forth across a football field...

@devin.pike.1989 Agreed. APCs would work. U-Wings are a far different story. Theyre 4 times the length of those Airspeeders/any APC we’d see.

Ground transports that are hindered by terrain are in general a very different story than space transports or other Airspeeder type vehicles.

The difficulty still lies in finding ones that in scale would fit on a 100mm base, or at least doesn't have much bigger of a footprint.

>Look at pictures of the Rebel Transport Speeder online

>Imagine trying to seriously field it in Legion and getting laughed at

>Change mind about transports

The U-wing is a teeny bit longer than the AT-ST is tall, it’s nothing, especially for a unit that, almost certainly would just move from one location to another (no range tool required). For balance purposes, require a unit to spend an action to embark (getting off out would be a free action).

So a player could load two units on their activation, move the U-wing then unload them for the next round. Mechanically, any objections to that?

Yes.

As we've said before, teleporting transports are an issue. They would immediately become an auto-include as they would allow for contesting/claiming objectives on your opponent's side of the board on turn 1/2 (especially as traditionally transports can start games loaded), and doesn't requiring getting the Deployment card which also gives your opponent the same advantage. Your design is completely unbalanced in that regard.

Second, unlike the AT-ST, that size is not arranged vertically, where it doesn't take up additional space on the board, and has to be able to fit in order to be placed.

Not to mention... the ATST is 9 meters tall. The U Wing is 25 meters long. Look at the pics of the ATST online. Now stack two and a half of them together, lay them on their sides, and try to realistically fit them on a board covered in terrain

I will grant that Rebels featured an "older model" U-Wing that did not have the S-foils. Still, a single AT-ST on it's side would be an issue, and most customers would want the film version of the U-Wing in any case. Not to mention Disney likely has final design approval of any models.
