Had my first successful use of Raid last night...

By shmitty, in Star Wars: Armada

I had used Raddus to drop in Profundity, which then dropped out a Hammerhead with Jyn on board. Profundity was dropped in front of Demo with the Hammerhead on its flank. I was able to use Jyn to shut down Demos ability to Nav, which kept it blocked by Profundity and the 2 of them easily combined to kill it. Good times.

So, chalk one up for Jyn.

Of course it took a ridiculous number of points to set up that particular set of circumstances. So, your mileage may vary.

Nasty.

All more reason to take a Comms net flotilla or Hondo to grant a token to get you that important command back despite the raid.

Rieekan too to keep the poor profundity victim alive for one last hurrah. From the depths of H e l l I stab at thee!

I honestly feel like as Raid proliferates, and especially once rebels get another source of it, we might start seeing Tarkin/Sovereign at the same rate as we see anti-slicer tech now; not all that common, but in use by people who really hate having their plans derailed.

I wonder about combining Raid with something like Ion Cannon Batteries, as that seems like a very solid way of ensuring the Raid sticks. Or forces the discard of the dial, which can be almost as good.

Hondo may become the best 2 point raid insurance plan on the market.

As long as you dont mind giving your opponent 2 tokens!

Also, its a good thing Jyn hands out 2 raid tokens. Force a choice on the opponent.

Just give them the ones they don't want and at least you can make sure you get the command you need most. For two points that is not too shabby.

His timing isnt great. Start of ship phase means you may be waiting out a turn, or you have to be anticipating the raid. Which is probably pretty easy with Jyn and somewhat less so if the raid source is a gauntlet

In this specific case, comms net wouldnt have helped, unless he passed the token the turn beforehand.

Wouldn't you just make the token for the command you want to safeguard? Just keep it on your ship if you're worried you're in danger.

Can you drop the Hammerhead at the same time that the 75 comes in? Both trigger at the start of the round and the profundity isn't yet on the board to trigger.

Yes. FAQ p. 7:

Q: If a ship or squadron was set aside and is deployed at the start of a game round by an ability or upgrade card effect, can it resolve abilities and upgrade card effects at the start of that round?

A: Yes, as long as those abilities could be resolved at the start of the round in which that ship or squadron was deployed.

Niffy, thanks for the clarification.

You'll have to activate in a particular order if you want to pass a token to remove raid, and you can't pass the correct token if the slicer tool flotilla changed the command, and you can't change the token to what you need it to be else unless you put Ahsoka or Sovereign in your list, and even if you do pass the token the ion cannon batteries ship can still strip it from you after the activation, so you'd better hope to have a damage control officer, etc etc etc

Raid isn't good all by itself, but as part of a specific anti-command tool-set, it could be a very effective addition

I wonder if it’d be worth trying out tractor beams as a means to zap away navigate tokens in conjunction with raids. Other than raiding a carrier’s ability to command squads, hitting the navigate command seems the best general use of a raid token.

Surprised demolisher didnt have a nav token!

It had burned it to get in front of Defiance.

A picture of what I described in the OP.

Yes. By the same token, just bank a token.

I thought about this. I think maybe? Six points is a lot tho.

#NosePunch4.0

Quantum Storm, Tractor Beams, Slicer Tools seems like a nasty combo with Jyn.

I ran this combo for a while after Wave 3 dropped, may have to bust it back out.

Its up to range 5 and doesn’t require a die roll, though.

The issue I’ve had with control elements in armada is that when I’ve gotten my list nice and saturated with them theres no longer anything in there that can really take great advantage of it. I haven’t really put the effort in since special K dropped, so I suppose its time to take another look. But I think things like Tractors/ICB’s and Slicers will be required in order to make full use of raid.
