Zion's Finest - Episode - 017 - Paul. Heaver.

Thanks for having me on! The Nyquil was starting to kick in at the end there. :)

Pfft. What does this guy know about Star Wars gaming? :P

Great job again guys. Really enjoying these guests and podcasts.

Between Lucas's wins in Connecticut/Dallas and Daniel's in Seattle, I think eRiots are going to start entering a lot more lists.

Thanks again for the Podcast, great listening material during work.

Sentries are awesome. Period. I love 1 set in a list

Very nice episode!

However, as long as I agree with Paul's assesment of units i think, that running a chart for IA isn't a way to go. The thing is, that there are way too many factors, that aren't dependend on pure units stats like total group cost and the possibilities of other units you can bring over, number of units in a single group, traits, versatility, maps in rotation, command cards, SPEED, stability (rerolls, dice type), and general ability to take down units (which consists of raw damage and range) not to talk about special abilities... For example, if you run the numbers I am sure, that ejets would be far superior to eweequays and erangers, beacuse they use 3 dice and are more durable, but on the board it's not so obvious, because weequays and rangers have easy acces to focus and hide (not talking about range). But as they say "whatever works for you" :)

I think an Excel sheet like this can give you a hint, which figures are playable and which are not. I think, there are some factors, that are hard to evaluate that way: Support figures, in faction synergies, special abilities, figures that fit a certain player's playing style ...

Yes, it's more of a starting point to figure out what's worth testing out, and what units can just brute force their way through opposing lists (my style of play) vs ones that need more finesse and cat-and-mouse games.

For example, Ahsoka is about 1 point too expensive to be in line with the pure stat efficiency that most of the other units in her wave have, give or take. So, if you like playing her, the spreadsheet says you can't go toe-to-toe with other units, and you have to use her abilities to make fights occur that you want, which is very hard. She hasn't really been successful in the current meta.

As another example, eSentries have the best efficiency I have ever seen, assuming you are double-tapping. But their hp-cost ratio is very low, which is a bit anti-synergistic with their need to double-tap to get the best efficiency. So, the spreadsheet says that they have a glass jaw, but they are best in the middle of the fray. They were really good against opponents who did not focus on killing them, and were surprised about how much damage they put out. Now that the wave's been out a while, it's getting harder to do. We're seeing less of them at top tables.

I too like to run the gauntlet like you, and prefer to get right into the fray as opposed to hiding and playing the finesse game. I could see how these guys would match that style. I also feel that their "Charged Shot" (with a re-roll) makes them a viable ranged threat, so opponents think twice about leaving guys out.

I wonder where the eSentries fit on the chart if you assume they only use charged shot?

They are very similar in efficiency to eWeequays if you only Charge Shot with them. However, they do pierce instead of straight +damage, and don't have the easy access to focus or other attack buffs / traits that eWeequays have.

Don't forget that eWeequays can make the defender re-roll, which is arguably their biggest strength.

Unless you run them with mercs, then you can focus em up. They also have shared experience command card and concentrated fire

Agreed. And with "Tough Luck" it's like another buffed attack, especially against a dodge.
