I have some questions about the Relay 2 ability on the Lambda -class Imperial Shuttle squadrons. Let me set up the scenario and please tell me if this works. I have an Imperial -class Star Destroyer with a squadron capacity of 4. I also have two Lambda shuttles and two TIE Fighter squadrons well beyond long range from the Star Destroyer (for arguments sake, let's say the squadrons are several feet away). Can the Star Destroyer use a Squadron Command on its dial to command all four of the squadrons using the Relay 2 ability of the two shuttles? (2+2 does equal 4). Using its squadron capacity of 4, can the Star Destroyer command the two TIE Fighter squadrons using the Relay 2 ability of one Shuttle and then use the Relay 2 ability of the second Shuttle to move both itself and the first Shuttle? Basically, the Star Destroyer uses one Squadron Command on its command dial to get two TIE squadrons and two Shuttes (which are well beyond normal range to command) to move and attack. Does this work?
Relay 2 questions
Sure can

As always I'm interested in the "why", so just to make sure I understand this:
Is the reason a Relay 2 squadron can itself be activated outside the normal command range of a ship because the Relay 2 squadron is considered to be At distance 1-3 of itself?
Thanks in anticipation.

Yea.
Im sure if you asked really nicely or looked quite far back on the forums (to when relay was released roughly) you can get a comprehensive rules reckoning. But the simple answer is yes.

Ships and squadrons are always at distance 1 of themselves.
