Militant Navigator

By jareddm, in Rogue Trader

Our party's navigator, for her motivation of pride, rolled Saint-Blessed Power Armour as her heirloom item. She wrote her character as being from a particularly militant navigator house and that the power armour has been specially fitted with a sliding armour plate over her third eye. She has made excellent use of her Lidless Stare, so much so that she is practically the party's heavy, bursting on to a ship's bridge and burning through the souls of all before her.

Because of this, I was wondering if there was ever any mention of navigators being used on the battlefield, making heavy use of their third eye's mind destroying power?

I suspect it's probably happened at some point, but given how rare Navigators are, I suspect risking them on the battlefield is strongly frowned upon. That said, there have been periods of open warfare between Houses, and not merely through proxies, so it would make sense to have a few battle-ready Navigators to mount a last ditch defence after the House Guard has failed (c/f the attack on House Belisarius in Wolfblade ).

Yes. Recommended reading would be Wolfblade, Sons of Fenris, and Wolf's Honour . The navigator Gabriella Belisarius occasionally uses her abilities in combat, but it tends to be tiring and not her first choice of actions.

I've never read any Space Wolf stuff. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be sure to take a look.

My Navigator, Zanus Hieronymus, is sort of the tank of the group, stats wise. He has the most hit points, his weapon and ballistic skills are on par with the Rogue Trader and the Arch-Militant, he has a totally sweet hell pistol. We are slow at playing, so we have only had one combat round, but I dove right into battle. Shot a dude in the face with my hell pistol, beat the **** out of a dude with a staff, and used lidless stare to incapacitate a guy.

My stats for actual Navigator stuff, perception (40) and willpower(38), are almost identical to ws(41) and bs(36)

I wrote his backstory to embellish his stats.Black sheep of an ancient House, spent most of his time doing the wh40k noble stuff, dueling, scheming, partying, occasionally hunting humans and mutants (spyrer kids from Necromunda). He should have been devoting more of his energy to Navigator stuff, but he didn't.
