Seriously tho, QBT’s are great but even on the VSD i find them often lacking upon engagement, and more often then not utterly useless against;

Spinals guarantee you get that die out there. Which isnt to say I wont use them (QBTs) as the budget option, especially if im not taking vader. Just that Spinals still have a place on the VSD even now.

Heh - reminds me of the time I had a full-health ISD staring down a Rebel fleet, in an excellent position to survive the round and pull into their weak arcs where they were unlikely to be able to do enough damage to finish the job and I was likely to be erasing ships (Corellian Campaign - the fleet was an ISD, 2 Vics, and an Arquitens plus 90 points of squadrons or so). 4 Z-95 shots later, I was missing my front shields and one of my side arcs, and had a damage on the hull. Who expects 4 double hits in a row out of Z-95s?

Looking at the amount of incoming fire I was likely to sustain, I decided that discretion was the better part of valour. Lost the match, obviously, but it prevented me from having to repair an ISD the next round.

QBTs have a higher ceiling though. Only dice add that works for both halves of a double arc.

Another guy loves his interdictors.

Salvation alongside a liberty is also seen.

In my meta, these ships are seen often.

I'm thinking of trying a Home One and three HH list. I kind of feel like the accuracy is going to do something for me when I manage to roll all the f*****g blank dice. Also was thinking MM may help with the survivability... Or go cheap with Dodonna.

I've been playing a Sato STM/TFA list in a CC for the last month or so, and it's really working well for me there at the 500-point level. STM Command Pelta, 4 TFA/OE/ACM Torpedo Corvettes, a support flotilla, and a max-points fighter wing.

I really struggle to get him to work at 400 and in a tourney setting though. It's a fairly risky list without a really big payoff when all the pieces come together right, and lots of potential to lose badly.

Yeah I mean I see those ships. And I think with the advent of intensify firepower, you are going to see even more Peltas.

Dont get me wrong, if all you are seeing is ships zipping about at speed three/four Cracken MSU type stuff, QBTs are an obvious choice. But a lot of my opponents like to slow roll, and QBTs are often a weak choice that wind up taking a slot or even further restricting my movement. Its a tech/meta choice.

Absolutely true. And if you are so good that you can consistently double arc something moving faster than you with a VSD at range then you should definitely take QBT’s, you beast you.

I don't think they're as bad as everyone believes them to be, especially now with HIE and Vader Cymoon. HOWEVER, i have NEVER played a game as Imperials in my life, so you know, Lot's Wife sized grain of salt and I could be talking completely out of my butt.

I'm just salty... I have horrible dice luck, so I can't really base my own thoughts on my capability...

I see someone takes Nose Punch to a Regional and gets third? That's awesome... I mention that to people, and what I got in response was, basically, regionals don't mean anything, they're too small and matchup dependent...

Not, y'know, a good concept and know how to fly it gets you anywhere... Not acceptance that, maybe, there's something to it. No, its all matchup until you get to Nationals, because that's all that counts.

If you're not giving the Pelta a shot alongside those Hammerheads you love so much, you should try it. TFA and STM is an intriguing option in this age of squadrons.

Yeah,I neglected to remember Peltas plus HH, my bad. I've been a little jaded recently by Salvation when it hasn't been working out as well as I wanted it to.

Salvation is a fickle bastard. It suffers from the evolving meta that has abundant re-rolls and die fixing. Can't blame you there. I can't remember the last time I used it myself.

Yeah, I had forgotten also about @comatose and his double Pelta list. I personally do like the Pelta, I just always hear chaff on the forums complaining about it. I need to field it again myself in a list, it always seemed to do OK for me.

The Pelta has some very big limitations, and it really is a support ship, kind of like a GR75 without a Scatter token. The biggest limitation is its speed. At speed 2, it can neither engage quickly nor run away. Giving it Engine Techs was something I used at one point to help with its speed in a Sato list with Rapid Launch Bays. It was gimmicky, but it was enough to win our 9 person store championship.

Intensify Firepower could give them a little boost due to so many Rebel ships benefiting from it. The question is what else does the Pelta do? If it had a turbolaser upgrade slot, it would be immensely better.

I think at the time they were concerned about adding a third rebel TRC platform.

I know shmitty likes to run the command variant as a trailer with dcaps to give it a little extra ranged punch.

I do. In fact many of my Rebel fleets start with a Pelta and either STM! or IF!. IF! is really all the Turbolaser upgrade that the Pelta needs. I tend to run it with Raymus as well, which means I spam Con Fire for the extra dice and have IF! for the guaranteed dice mod. It doesn't want to go toe-to-toe with a big ship, but it can certainly help to kill one.

I'm experimenting with a list with Home One, Pelta IF!, 3x Hammerhead Quad Turbolaser Cannons in a CC campaign. Since the whole thing falls apart without the Pelta, the Pelta will probably be a sweeper, finishing anything that manages get passed Home One and the Hammerheads.
