If you put yourself in the perspective of the attacking figure in the example; you can see something, maybe a flash of color, but you really can't make out what you want to attack.

Thematically, I imagine that the attacker's head/face/eyes are right there on the corner, so they have a full 90 degrees-worth of visible area in the adjacent space (in the case where there are figures on both sides of the attacker. He's 'leaning in' to the corner and 'peering' between the other guys for the full range of view...

I said 'edge', not 'corner'. Really stupid in a topic about specific wording. lol

I've run into a LOT of players who absolutely HATE the LoS rules in this game. They make perfect sense to me and they seem really logical, but for some reason there's a lot of ire out there for the LoS rules.

Anyone else seen that?

Yes. This used to happen to every person I would explain Los to.

Then I stopped explaining LoS to new players. I just tell them that you can't shoot through doors, other figures and blocking terrain. Then once they get the hang of things, I'll tell them how LoS is supposed to work. So far everyone has been receptive to it and are happy to integrate the proper rules.

There's enough things to learn when you pickup this game the first time that anything that can be left for later should be.

Yep. Although, I usually get lip after they are adamant that they have line of sight (or I don't) and I've explained it to them with counting...

It's like, 'I get it - you don't want me to be able to pull off this shot. But I totally can.' lol

Of all the rules in this game, line of sight is one I've never had trouble understanding or explaining.

people usually get stuck on the rules about conditions and blast and Cleave... Especially the part about having had to do damage (unless it's not the keyword)
