Sacrificing cards and Time

By Mike, in Android

Now, I know the distinction between sacrificing a card and actually playing it - the latter costing time. During our first game, however, the question rose whether sacrificing a card towards a certain effect (here Floyd's Thou Shalt Not Kill plot) would still cost time, too. six tme

The card in question says: Floyd gains one good baggage each time he sacrifices two dark cards. So with six time could I

a) draw six dark cards and sacrifice them for three good baggage or

b) draw four dark cards and sacrifice them (each sacrifice taking one Time, too), for two good baggage?

Good catch! This does seem to break the definition of "Sacrifice" on page 12:

"When something is sacrificed, it is discarded without its normal effect taking place. A given item may only be sacrificed towards one effect."

So, when Louis sacrifices leads, he's already paid the time because following leads is a normal part of one's turn. One does not play Dark cards during one's own turn, so it's hard to see the "normal" effect here. Also, Floyd couldn't sacrifice two dark cards during someone else's turn, since that would break another rule.

I vote for option B.

Now everyone think Sammy Davis, Jr. here, and keep chanting: "Bring on the FAQ! Bring on the FAQ! Bring on the FAQ!"

With option B, this would make fulfilling Floyd's plot a very difficult task. Seing as he gets two (2!) bad baggage each time another merely plays a plot-related dark card.

During the game, I, as the owner of the game, administratively ruled for no Time loss, as you already lose the dark cards.

There is nothing to imply that there should be time loss associated with Floyd sacrificing his Dark Cards. There are a number of other cards that reference similar sacrifices. I would tend to think that the loss of whatever you are sacrificing is enough of a negative.

With case 'A'. however, keep in mind that your turn ends immediately after you lose your last time. As long as Floyd still has his 3rd directive in play, and thus has 7 time, you should be fine. Otherwise your turn would end immediately on drawing the 6th card.

My wife did that to me after I had loaded that plot up with bad baggage. She also recharged Floyds batteries to get even more good baggage to counter it.

I tried the batteries. Unfortunatley, I was a day too late and got fitted with a limiter. Very tragic. :/

Hadn't considered the +2 bad baggage aspect. I'm sure you're right.
