Jar Jar and "after" triggers that remove his dice

By kaffis, in Star Wars: Destiny

So I was musing over how to make one-die Jar Jar free soft mitigation while lessening the risk of him being used against you, and it occurred to me that Fast Hands might be a way to work this. So if you were to put Fast Hands on him, you could take the option to put Fast Hands' "after" trigger into the queue before Jar Jar's "after" trigger, and (unless Jar Jar rolls a blank on his die) there would be no die in the pool for Jar Jar's ability to reference -- what would the outcome of this situation be? Does everything re-roll since no dice match his non-existant shown symbol? Or does nothing reroll because there's no die to test against?

But then I got to thinking -- if your opponent activates Jar Jar, it's your *opponent* triggering the "after" text on his card... Would Fast Hands then give each player an "after" trigger, and the ordering decision goes to whomever controls the battlefield? Or, to really get weird, does your opponent get to make the choice of whether or not to Fast Hands since your opponent is the one activating Jar Jar and Fast Hands says "When you activate..."?

Help, I think I broke my brain.

Did Jar Bar's dice get rolled? Are any dice showing different symbols? Nothing can change the text or cheat it out of it's power or lack of. 6 dice start is not weak when Rose and vehicles get involved.

At this time, I would say reroll everything, however I don't have a strong feeling on that and can see either side of the argument being valid. So you might want to submit the question to the support email and see what response you get.

As for the second question, the enemy player forces you to activate Jar Jar, he does not do the activation for you. So all triggers behave as normal by the player who controls Jar jar.

The opponent doesn't activate Jar-Jar, so that's just a dead end straight away.

As for the reroll, it's based on the symbols on his character dice. The way it's worded, if there are no symbols on his character dice because they aren't there, there are still no symbols on his character dice.

Don't overthink things: :) Just do what the card says. When Jar Jar's effect resolves, you compare all the dice in pools against the symbols showing on Jar Jar's dice. If there are no symbols showing, you re-roll everything, because nothing matches any symbols showing on Jar Jar's dice.

I don't see why you can't resolve Fast hands before Jar Jar's ability. They are both after effects, and you get to decide which happens first. The question is whether or not you have to re-roll all dice after you have resolved his die. That is a good question, but as Lusiphur05 said, arguments can be made that you will be re-rolling dice or not.

i have a question about jar jar, if you run 2 dice on him, and he rolls different results, does he reroll his own dice because the results are different?

No, you only reroll dice not matching the symbols on either of his dice.

I don't think anyone is saying you can't put Fast Hands on Jar Jar and resolve it before his after effect gets resolved. As stated, they are both after effects controlled by the same player, so that player decides the order of resolution.

But there should be no confusion as to whether his reroll ability is triggered if his die is not in the pool. No where in the ability is this stated as a condition. It would say "reroll any dice not matching a symbol showing on this die in the pool." It's a simple check:

1: Note symbol(s) showing on Jar Jar dice (this can be one, if his die(ce) have been resolved)

2: Reroll any dice that do not match the symbol(s) you noted in step 1: If you noted no symbols, reroll all dice.

You'd reroll any upgrades he has but not his character dice, even if he has 2 of them.

i may be over thinking this but what if they results match one dice but not the other. im assuming that as long as the other dice match at least one of his character dice then they dont get rerolled, correct?

Yup, overthinking it. If you roll 2 different symbols, dice showing either of them will not be re-rolled. And remember that blank is a symbol.
