New player - looking to start Skirmish (at Regionals?)

Dice? was it Dice that were handed to you in your first tourney?

If only....if only.

Thanks for the kind words on the paint.

And realistic expectations are a go - the smaller event is all about learning the rules and figuring out the Command deck, while I am hoping for top 16 at an event of likely around 20 at Regionals.

Speaking of Command decks - are the character-specific cards as much of a trap option as they appear?

That really depends. Some Character specific CCs are really good and worth taking (the prime example is Blaze Of Glory and Son Of Skywalker), others are definitely not. A lot is in-between. It really depends on cost vs effect. I think Gideons card have a lot of merrit, but it's real expensive and he can die real fast if he sticks his nose forward. I've personally been happy to use Bossks card as that makes the grenade really deadly if you can get two/three targets.

@aermet69 pretty much summed it up. There are only a handful of Character specific cards I ever even consider.....Blaze of Glory, Son of Skywalker are auto adds, Debts Repaid is an auto include with Chewie's fix, and Vinto's Draw! is also. Onar's Extra Protection is always a high consideration, Han's I Make My Own Luck has its place, but can also be useless. Bossk's could play well on Jabba and Mos Eisley. I might be missing 1 or 2, but there tends to be better cards to bring, either because they are just better, or they have better synergy with the group as a whole.

So, here's my initial take on a Command deck - I might be a little heavy on Hunter cards, but I'm willing to give it a try.

* Assassinate (3)

* Trandoshan Terror, Dirty Trick, Close the Gap, Tools for the Job (2)

* Tough Luck, Merciless, Price on Their Heads, Marksman (1)

* Celebration, Deadeye, Take Initiative, Toxic Dart, Mitigate, Shoot the Messenger (0)

Any obvious errors or overaifhts in my choices?

I'd say Merciless looks cool on paper, but doesn't really work well. You generally want to be attacking and you want to be close if you are still running the 2x Tusken + Trandos list, and that means you generally need that other action for moving. Dirty Trick is a cool card, but again, I often sit with it in my hand with no use. If you have access to some of the newer Brawler cards, that might be a thing - otherwise movement cards! You need to get those guys in and attack!

Edit: Har! Didn't notice it was all 15 cards posted, thought it was just ideas. I'd definitely not leave home with a close quarter squad and not take Urgency and Fleet Footed and every other movement card you have. I actually think Close The Gap can be worth the two points at the right time.

I would take out marksman for Primary target. I'm a fan of dirty trick, but if you have access to heightened reflexes I would take that one instead. Otherwise, it looks pretty solid.

I agree about merciless and marksman. I like marksman a lot when you have sniper-like figures, otherwise not sure you'll use it much.

I've more recently become a huge fan of Brace For Impact and Stealth Tactics. Keeping figures alive is huge. I like Brace in your list and would probably replace marksman or merciless.

Urgency is great and an auto includes in any list for many players.

7 people at today's event - I ended up getting the bye in round 3, so played two games.

Marksman allowed me to clear Greedo off an objective with Trandoshan Hunter shooting through a Tusken Raider, so it was handy.

I'm thinking Jump Jets might be handy - the cliff on Nal Hutta Swamps was irritating, and that would allow me to get someone down from it.

Bossk nearly dropping Maul in one shot (plus Assassinate) was entertaining - 10 damage in one hit seemed fun, though it was the most I managed with him in the two games.

Need to not be quite so aggressive as I was, as it kept leading to me a, outrunning my support; and b, having figures picked off.

One point to check with Gideon - one opponent claimed there was a range limit on his ability, but others I saw used him with unlimited range as long as LOS was right - as far as I could see, the latter interpretation is the right one, correct?

The Skirmish version of Gideon only requires line of sight for his abilities.

The Hero Gideon is the opposite, he Commands a friendly figure within 3 spaces (even without line of sight), until/unless he gets Air of Command and he can also Command any friendly figure in line of sight.
