Triple Rhos with Fleet Officer Bomber

By BadMotivator, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I'm gonna take this to a local tournament this sunday.

Rho Squadron Pilot: Deadeye, Proton Torpedoes, Thread Tracers, Chips

Rho Squadron Pilot: Deadeye, Proton Torpedoes, Chips

Rho Squadron Pilot: Deadeye, Proton Torpedoes, Chips

Scimitar Squadron Pilot: TIE Shuttle, Fleet Officer, LWF

100 points

Been having a lot of success with Deadeye Proton Chip Rhos, and three of them with fleet officer support seems nasty. Especially with all the anti-target lock tech as well as the Kanan/Fenn bs.

This way I can double Focus two of the Rhos most of the time. and hopefully occasionally get a Thread Tracer off for extra modification. Or just hit someone with three Protons at once.

Is there a particular reason for Proton's over Harpoons? Crits? I think you get more out of the harpoons for the same cost.

I think the thread tracers are a good counter to countermeasures/Black one. Since it takes place during combat, you can't knock it off.

I really like the combination of the Proton's innate dice modification plus the Chips. Its more reliable crit generation.

I could swap one of the Rhos to Harpoons of course, which would synergize with the crit generation of the Protons...

Proton Torpedos will have an average of about 0.2 hits per attack fewer than Harpoons (3.496 vs 3.684), and a 14% reduction in the chance of 4 hits (59.4 vs 73.8). They have a 84.7% chance of a crit, however, compared to 41.4% with Harpoons. There's actually an argument for Concussion Missiles, believe it or not. Due to Fleet Officer giving two focus tokens, they've got the hardest initial hit of all, at 3.945 expected hits, and a 94.9% chance of 4 hits. Same 41.4% crit chance.

However, this is all deceptive, because Harpoons are slightly more powerful than their point cost, with the condition doing an additional damage to the original ship once triggered. With a 41% crit chance, that'll happen fairly often.

I should say: list seems fine. It'll provide Deadeye with insurance against Hot Shot Copilot, and or give your Rhos some defensive focus (fairly solid on 2 green dice). I know I've seen folks run a 22 point Nu in such lists, but a TIE Shuttle is a cool twist.

Say, this doesn't really apply to this list, since General Hux can't fly in a Bomber, but his Fanatical Devotion condition might be interesting when assisting a ship with on-hit effects. Like Maarek Stele with Advanced Homing Missiles. Oh god that's nasty. Any such list is going to be trash, since it'll have both Hux and a non-Vader TIE Advanced (generics with Cluster Missiles are OK), but still. That's some Grade-A Jank.

I actually had flown this list with a Harpoon Nu instead. Then I was wondering how it would fair with a support bomber instead.

So I won the tournament.

Game 1 was vs Kylo+2 Harpoon Deadeye Rhos. Killed both Gunboats and only lost the Bomber and one of the Rhos, then ran till the clock ran out.

Game 2 vs Tie Swarm. Howlrunnner, Zeta Leader, and 4 Black Squadron Pilots. All with Crackshot. End of game only Zeta leader and one Rho were alive.

Game 3 vs Kavil(TLT, unhinged, VI), Fenn(PTL, Autothrusters, Title), and Dalan Oberos(Harpoons, VI, Glitterstim, Chips, Unhinged). Turn 2 Fenn took 1 damage from a range 3 primary weapon attack through a rock from one of the Rhos. Fenn then barely rocked himself the turn after(less than 1/2 a mm) for a damage. The Kimo and Fenn were able to finish one Rho off(both got range 1 shots) before the Kimo got ganked. Kavil died the next turn. Game ended when Fenn failed to kill a Rho with no shields at range 1(by one damage) and then died to a range 2 through a rock Proton from the other Rho. Only a single Rho died, all the rest of my ships were on 1 hull at the end.
