So my gaming buddies and I just finished the campaign, taking about 8 months to get it done.
I played Military Might and used the agenda decks from the core set except Imperial Industry. The Rebels were Mak, Dialla, Jyn, and Garkaan.
It has been a lot of fun, but the final mission Desperate Hour was a bit of an anti-climax. I completely rolled them. The 8 round limit and Weiss +10 heath the second go around was insurmountable for the Rebels. I also held back most of my agenda cards so when the time was right I was able to get the threat level to absurd amounts, bringing in Vader and basically the entire kitchen sink once they made it to the last part of the scenario.
At first I reveled in all my Imperial forces, but then felt bad. The Rebels were pretty dejected once they realized by Turn 6 they were not going to stand a chance. All the scenarios up till that point had been down to the wire and could have gone either way (except some of the side missions that were badly stacked against the Empire), but this mission was a foregone conclusion it seemed.
Granted the Rebels got slowed down fighting my elite stormtroopers with assault armor and combat veterans when they should have been making a beeline towards the end of the scenario. If they had opened the doors to the Hanger on Round 1 with their first action, I think they could maybe have kept up the momentum, but they got bogged down and by the time they rushed to the end they were strung in a line (including Mak getting cut off behind a door!)
All in all we enjoyed the experience, but I think 2 players each using 2 characters proved to be too much of a headache remembering all the interactions etc. Next time I think 1 character a piece would be the right call. Also to keep the game more balanced and fun as Imperial I would not save up a giant stack of agenda cards because it just imbalanced the scenario too much.
I'm looking forward to a break from IA for a bit, but will be starting the computer campaign with my son, and maybe by summer my gaming group and I will start Return to Hoth. Now we're on to Gloomhaven!
