*ALERT* EPISODE II INBOUND *ALERT*

By DragonReborn, in Star Wars: Armada

APPARENTLY someone cried to the forum admin about the original post. Not sure why because we’ve yet to receive a non copy and paste answer, but OK. So here is a repost with HEAVY censoring from our friends at the Imperial Security Bureau to appeal to those with more puritanical values. Enjoy....

Hey guys!

*SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT*

Coming next <REDACTED> into the Glory <REDACTED>! We can’t wait to reveal our special <REDACTED>.

And don’t forget, when <REDACTED> just remember what <REDACTED> <REDACTED>!

This made me laugh so much, I almost <REDACTED> myself

Hopefully everyone enjoys this <REDACTED> episode! We're still working out the best way to record but I think I did a pretty <REDACTED> decent job cleaning it up.

We love to hear your <REDACTED> feedback, so let us know here or whereever the <REDACTED>

Feel free to reach out to us with any armada questions you may have, if you bring up something interesting we'll discuss it in our next episode!

Thanks for all the support!

I listened to your first episode and despite the off color commentary and running banter which I didn't enjoy I found it pretty informative and worth wading through.

I didn't even make it through five minutes of this episode. I'm guessing you'll tell me to go <REDACT> myself, but you did say you love to hear feedback, so here it is; If you ease up on the sexual comments and attempted humor I'd probably give it another listen, but at this point I'm out.

As a counterpoint, I enjoy the off colour stuff.

Different strokes for different folks.

It's kind of like porn vs. not-porn. It's hard to describe, but you just know it when you see it. While most of the jokes are immature at best, some of them make me wonder why these hosts think it's okay to talk this way about fictional female characters in a format that will live on the internet forever, like they hold some form of real misogyny, not the cliche kind of stuff gamers are often accused of perpetrating. This podcast makes the Armada community look bad.

Cool, thanks for listening! Super glad you liked the podcast! It’s super duper feedback from our fans that really drive us. We exist to please you, and it looks like we can continue to exist at least another day!

You know women play this game, right? I knew I was in I for a "treat" when I heard "Mon mothma's <redacted>"

I don't know why I bothered listening to the rest.

Good to know tournament organizers have this perspective on women. The tabletop gaming community has a positive feedback loop of making women uncomfortable so they stop playing. I just want to crush some rebel scum, not hear a bunch of sexually degrading jokes about some of my childhood heroes. And I'm not a prude. Just don't degrade people non-consensually(in this case, by holding <redacted>-backwards views), and don't degrade people (or characters in this case) where people can see you, like in a forum for a board game.

The excessive long and ridiculously vulgar music at the end of the podcasts were the nail in the coffin for me. Too bad too, I enjoyed the Armada content. I can't babysit my podcast content when listening to them where others can hear it. /unsubscribed

It’s ok, we’ve already revoked your listeners account anyway. From this day forth, you are no longer allowed to listen to the Podcast. I know this seems harsh, but it had to be done. For your own good.

Pro Tip: Try wearing headphones. I’m guessing your family/co-workers didn’t want to listen to your (our) nerd podcast about plastic spaceships anyway.

Thanks for listening! Super great feedback!

We’ve reached out to Mom Mothma & Gov. Pryce’s camp in regards to your concerns. Still waiting to hear back from them considering they are fictional characters in a made up universe (far far away), but still holding out hope they’ll answer.

Cya for Ep. III !

I just now put two and two together. It definitely makes us look bad for a tournament organizer to have this kind of documented behavior.

WHO DIS!?

As always, we do appreciate everyone's feedback, even if it's negative. We do want to know what you think. Our goal with this podcast is to come out, have a good time talking about a game we <REDACTED> LOVE, and share some tips and strategies with everyone. We like to joke around to make things more fun for us, and so it doesn't feel like we're running a lecture or teaching a class. Not everyone is going to enjoy our humor or find us funny, I understand that, and if you feel you don't want to listen, that's up to you, I wish you would, but I respect your decision. The point is, it is not our goal to offend anyone, and I really don't think we've done or said anything offensive. I'll grant you that we have definitely slandered some fictional characters, but.... you know, they're fictional, and if you watched those last couple episodes of rebels and thought we were wrong about Pryce and her sex dungeon....... Let's just say she was enjoying that torture WAY too much for it to be the first time.

As far as the music goes, the music will be rotating and changing in different episodes going forward, I was running way behind on this episode trying to get it out in a timely fashion and didn't have time to look at the music. That said, I am not promising to totally clean up the music, I think that song we ended with is hilarious, and there may be others like it in the future. My man stitches loves him some cocaine.

We've gotten a lot of great support from many of our listeners, and thank you all for listening.

We're going to start doing some occasional streaming in the next month or so, look for links to that here and on our facebook page https://m.facebook.com/orjpodcast/

Until then, Enjoy the Rim!

The crude humor I don't have any problem with. I have a problem with the misogynistic humor, which your podcast contains a lot of. There's a lot of overlap.

@Emperor Dane First of all, thank you for the more thoughtful response instead of a snarky and dismissive one.

However, it doesn't matter that the characters are fictional. It's not that you're offending them, it's that speaking about them in such a way projects an attitude of casual misogyny that many people, including me, are really not at all comfortable with. That's a pretty big issue in gaming culture in general, and perpetuating it really doesn't help to make the Armada community a more welcoming and inclusive one.

Changed misogynism to misogyny because I'm not entirely sure whether the former is a word or not

This **** is why the missus avoids the flgs. If you normalize talk like that ya drive players away.

Yeah, this was hard to listen to.

I'll add that it only takes a few sexist folks to put women off of a scene if the rest of the community seems fine with their behavior.

Each to their own. The guys who make this do it for fun, and no financial gain. If you don’t like it, fair enough - don’t listen. Fewer subscribers, same money!

I personally like the Armada content, the jokes make me laugh - does it need all of the R-rated content to make it a good podcast? Probably not. But I will continue to listen and enjoy.

As a side note, the average Armada player is a male nerd in the 20s-30s-40s. I don’t think there are many females who play the game period, never mind who listen to obscure podcasts on the topic. I don’t think this podcast will make one iota of difference to that.

Yes, why SHOULD we cater to people who might want to join the community or be interested in our hobby, or the ones who currently DO exist in the community? I'm not a woman, so who cares if what I say is offensive, just learn to deal with it, brah!

Me and my friends look a certain way physically, so what's stopping us from making jokes about those who look different from me or act differently from me? Your argument is BAD.

I feel compelled to make two points to that topic. First, while they are few, the women who play Armada deserve no less respect that the ones that don't, or any other person around the world for that matter. Some, who I won't tag so they don't have to engage here if they don't want to, have gone on to win Regionals this season, and Lord only knows about the past and future. That they are few does not make them irrelevant.

Second, why do you think that is? Don't answer, that's a rhetorical question, but think. It's probably got something to do with who goes to gaming stores and conventions, which is generally how most folks are exposed to this sort of thing. And generally your assertion holds there too, it's mostly guys between their early 20s and late 40s, though I know a fair few older folks in both Armada and gaming generally. I would further posit that there is nothing inherently male about miniature gaming, so we now have a nominally open hobby that very clearly isn't following through with that potential in practice. There has to be another factor here, and I would argue that factor is one that Armada is better than most about, its playerbase culture. In my experience, Armada players tend to be more friendly, more sociable and socialized, and generally more agreeable people than is the norm in mini-gaming. However, it is expressions like this where people are made uncomfortable that we lose both potential and current players who may decide that the game, however good it may or may not be, is not worth the community that invariably comes with it.

I won't ask anyone to change, because invariably that doesn't work. I will instead ask those that are willing to put on the shoes of others that we are asking you to think about and walk around for a bit in them. If you are unable to do that, at least consider the miles those shoes have tread, and perhaps whether or not you would want to tread those miles yourself or force someone you care about to tread those miles. What you do after that is up to you.

Just doing something for fun doesn't make it immune to criticism.

The armada content is okay. Most of their jokes are just lazy edgy objectifying comments. Yes, mon mothma at a <redacted>. Why is that funny again? Pryce being a closet sadist? So funny. You boys must laugh hysterically for hours when you go to an actual dungeon. Or maybe it's just putting women down makes you feel better.

Hey, I'm a woman, and I listened to the podcast. My girlfriend got me into the game. The objective isn't to make the space more open to women so more women come. It's to make the space more open to women so we don't feel like we are being treated lesser in the community, because that builds tension and resentment. And, you know, so we are treated with basic human decency.

Forgive me, but I don't see the reason for drama here. I could tell from the podcaster's first announcement I was not the slightest bit interested in anything they had to say based on the crudity and vulgarity of their original post. Some of the condescending responses some members of their podcast have made in this thread have only reinforced my original position.

I figured out a solution - I don't listen to their podcast. It works out great. I'm not disgusted by them and they get their free speech. (I'm a proponent of absolute free speech. Even - especially - speech I despise.)

It's a solution that works for me. Your mileage may vary.

"They are able to say things without the government imprisoning them for saying those things"

Is a pretty low bar to clear, ethically speaking. I'm also a proponent of absolute free speech in that sense. That doesn't mean I think it would have been better if the people who made the podcast refrain from saying a bunch of sexist things. Because people's speech affect the culture of the community.
