Some info about Organized Play in Legion
Article on Organized Play
Campaign play? Hmmmmm...
Hey guys, I just wanted to chip in that Empire Game Center in Streetsboro Ohio will be one of the stores receiving the demos on March 8th.
I’m not too interested myself, but I know at least 2 of our Armada players are interested and would love to play.

Yeah, I was surprised to read that. And of course there's no further explanation. Maybe there will be a loose campaign structure for the Recruitment Kit? Or are they talking something more like The Corellian Conflict for Armada? Only time will tell I guess...

This whole article basically boils down to: "Stay tuned for some thrilling information! We're just going to vaguely refer without any sort of exposition!" Was hoping for at least some idea as to how terrain was going to be handled for the boards of OP events.
I'm really excited about this. I'll have to see if my local store is planning to do this. They have pretty healthy groups for several of the other FFG Star Wars games so here's hoping.
Im curious if this is how we'll see more alternate models, like Twi'lek troopers or just alternate poses.

I don't think so, as those are army specific. So if 3/4 the players are Rebel, but you hand out an alternate Stormtrooper pose, that's not a great handout for a fairly expensive outlay compared to much cheaper and easier to produce acrylic tokens or alt art cards. It's not like X-wing handed out alt paint job ships, or Armada alternate formation fighter bases.

Exactly. But this could have an interesting side effect that of they release an AA unit card, that could possibly mean getting a "free" unit out of the deal since you could possibly cobble together another Stormtrooper or Rebel Trooper unit from the unused minis from your other units (Leader designation might be the only tricky part).
I am intrigued by the vague mention of campaign play.

I like this article better than the ones that tell us things we already know.
Best Alt Art cards are going to be those that come in the boxes for the various troops that aren't in the core sets.
The I-17 for Armada was and is one of the stand out Alt Art cards as it was going to get played and was available in limited sets. That is the gold standard of cards in my limited experience.

What is an i17? I have played Armada almost weekly for 3 years and don't know what that is

They did give actual dates for when various information would be released. So that’s actually pretty awesome compared to everyone just wondering.
They hand out rebel or Imp specific xwing cards even if you played the alternate side so why not minis regardless of what you played?
Can you say eBay market?

XI7 Turbolasers, I haven't played for over a year.

Mostly because minis are significantly more expensive to produce than single runs of cards. Shipping alone as each mini takes up significantly more space in whatever shipping method used than a single card.

The release is seriously delayed so they have to make 5 articles out of 1...
enjoy campaign play
I plan to, what is it? Excited! Could it just be a string of mission books included with the core/figures like IA?
rally your Rebel friends against a team of Imperials, and band together with your fellow Imperials to crush the Rebellion.
Team OP? team narrative, or a one off decider for the next line below?
help establish your store as a Rebel Base or an Imperial Outpost, and walk away with some early prizes!
Seriously intrigued!
whether you're primarily a casual player, a hobbyist, or a serious tactician singularly focused on planetary conquest.
Could this be a hint at a Narrative OP program? Or just an allusion to the scale of the game? (probably the latter of course).

Yes, I am speculating to the highest degree. Still excited.
Don't speculate too much, this...
QuoteYou can meet with friends for group painting sessions, experiment with new armies, enjoy campaign play, rally your Rebel friends against a team of Imperials, and band together with your fellow Imperials to crush the Rebellion.
... is only the description of how anybody can play a miniature game. It's not linked to the Organized Play program.
The Organized Play program is :
Quote
The Organized Play program opens with five different facets, which we will cover more in the weeks to come.
- In-Store Early Demos. Beginning March 8th, two weeks before the official release, select retailers will offer demos of the game, where you can see the miniatures and learn the basics of movement and combat. (More details to follow on February 12th.)
- Launch Weekend. Immediately upon the game's release, from March 22nd to March 25th, participating retailers will host three Launch Weekend activities, rewarding participants with commemorative prizes and the opportunity to claim the store for either the Galactic Empire or Rebel Alliance. (More details to follow on February 26th.)
- Legion at AdeptiCon. AdeptiCon will be hosting its own Launch Weekend activities, along with a series of other activities that make the convention an exciting opportunity for players looking to dive into Legion head first and bring their experiences back to their local communities. (More details to follow on March 5th.)
- In-Store Events. The in-store events at your local game store are the foundation of Star Wars: Legion Organized Play. Show up, participate, and play. These events kick off with the Star Wars™: Legion Recruitment Kit, which offers you the flexibility to run a weekly league, single-day events, or casual gaming. (More details to follow on March 12th.)
- Championship Events. There are many ways to enjoy your Legion battles, and players looking to test their skills against the galaxy's best commanders will enjoy Championship Events. These large, spirited events offer top-level competition, as well as a path to the Star Wars: Legion World Championships! (Details to follow in April.)

I may need to see when FFG GC runs their early demo before release and go to that. I’d like to see if any swag comes from it.
I am booked through Adepticon with Xwing the whole time. I have no other plans at Adepticon. Going to be a ton of fun.
After that, depends entirely what this campaign stuff is about. I’ll probably just play at home with friends unless that looks really intriguing. I have xwing for my primary “competitive” outlet and I don’t plan on changing that.

I think you are wrong, it mentions prizes in the same paragraph. Also the article is 100% about the OP program surely , that's the point. Otherwise a description of how anyone can play a game belongs in the game description / on the box.
This article says to me, they know this game can be a lot more than 1v1 tournaments and they plan to show us some of that in the OP as well. I think (hope) they plan to give us a taster of lots of options, and then see where the community wants to go.
Or it could be as bad as Legend of the 5 Rings was, come to store, buy game, hang around looking at cards, cos everyone else has paired of and isn't interested in new players and would rather play tournament games with their 3 core boxes.
Looking back on that experience, I plan to do whatever I can to get newbies playing. Totally ready to play some 400 Point games or whatever it is for release OP.
