If a ship has 1 shield left on the adjacent hull zones and both ACM and HIE proc, does the attacking player get to determine the order in which they trigger?

Yup. Really slowly say HIE....... FCT and then shout ACMs....

Bless you.

It’s a shield shredder. Like ACMs but at longer range. When combined with ACMs it’s brutal. Basically 5 damage the opponent has to suffer on their shields before damage is applied.

Though ACMs is actual damage and HIEs specifically apply to shields when they have shields it’s shreds them fast.

To emphasize this point and by way of example, for a typical set of rolls, a fully-shielded MC80H will have no shields to redirect to during the second shot of a double-arc from a Kuat at close range. The only way around that is for the defender to have Advanced Projectors equipped.

HIEs are exhaust to use. :(

I included that in my analysis.

If you include the damage that was actually rolled (between 6-8 on average for me) they typically have very little or NO shields remaining after that first blast. And since ACMs can trigger twice and they're applied before damage, it's very unlikely they'll have shields left to redirect to. (An mc80 getting hit on the front would have 1, a fully loaded aspiration mc75 would have 3-4 before the 2nd shot is applied).

The biggest difference between HIE and ACM is: HIE only goes on shields. It is an extra 3 damage, but if there are no shields, it does nothing anymore. ACM is damage. If there are no shields left, it is still +2 damage.

On top what Darth Sanguis (and other said). ACM can trigger on each attack. HIE only once.

They have both their use. But i would (as i said earlier) not mix blue and black crit with the FCT. I would try to use two crits with the same die.

Agreed that one crit is easier to roll. But with Screed, one crit is also all you would need. And since you can only use Heavy Ion Emplacements (and FCT, for that matter) once, you don't have to roll multiple crits multiple times. Getting two crits in one of your two attacks is actually likely, not difficult. For me, the question is cost rather than probability.

This. And this is why I would prefer to FCT Heavy Ions with something like XX9 (and that would be on either ISD2 or a Liberty then)
