Rivals promos! (but wait...Aurbesh? Again!!?)

By loki_tbc, in Star Wars: Destiny

I love the extended arts, so thank you. But please, for the love of god, Stop With The Aurebesh!! It's not even a language, just a stupid substitution cipher!!

And if you aregoing to insist on doing it, could you do it only for cards that have no rules text on them? Flavor text in that stupid scribble is fine, but anything I gotta be able to read is just silly.

Thanks alot,

Loki

P.S. XOXOXOXO

God yes. Does ANYONE actually like them? I have no idea why FFG keeps persisting with them. They were a stupid idea the first time, they continue to be a stupid idea. Having cards that are essentially unreadable is just a bad idea.

Is it meant to appeal to hardcore SW collectors or something?

They were neat at first but seriously they are irritating as heck.

Why would you have a game that "does what the card says" have special cards that dont even use a real language?

It is so they only have to print one type of card for the world... no need to adjust for other countries at that point...

I like the look of them, don’t like playing with them.

Only ones they should be used for are cards like Deathtrooper. Any text should be alt or extended art only....The Jango promo is a good example of this and an awesome looking card.

There are a few fan boys that really like these, everyone else just wants to read the **** card.

I really don’t like them either. This was the reason I didn’t bother going to the launch event at CoolStuff, three of those types of cards were the “prizes” I would have rather they had some legendary cards as prizes.

I like them.

That being said, I tend to enjoy harmless “trolly” nonsense like the AA Lightsaber Pull card from Gslsctic Qualifiers. It’s so stupid looking, it’s the BEST.

Best cards I have ever received as Organised Play Prizes have been: The I-17 Lasers for Armada which was a card that saw lots of play but was hard to get as it only came with the little corvettes. Electroshock with R2-D2 for Destiny, loved the art and the card being uncommon (read rare without dice) was great for everyone.

While I love the Aurabesh cards as I collector, I wish to have normal cards as a player.

Why has the article changed? The tinker card has disappeared.

Is this the case? Or since it is a simple substitution cipher, do they have to translate to every other language and then run the cipher over it?

I honestly don't know.

They don't do that for every language.

They already translate the cards to whichever languages they decide is worth publishing in. So that work is done and on file. I don't see translation as a problem and even just plain English is more intelligible than star wars script.

its not the translation. Its the mass printing.. This way the only have to print on type of each card in large orders.

Question from the a nub. Do you even get dice with these promo cards? I suspect no. If not then how the heck are we even supposed to use these? At least MTG promos are immediately playable.....

if the promo needs a die you still need to pull it from a booster to get the die.

Its the main reason both my friends and i could care less about these promos to begin with. Theres rarely an event promo thats even worth messing with, electroshock being one of the rare ones.

The card art had 1 cost when it is certainly a 0 cost card so it was pulled from the page

They do in house printing for North America. Not sure what they do over in Europe where this is an actual problem. It really has nothing to do with translation or mass printing, these are cheap print shop runs as is, it is just them being cute with the script.

can tell theyre cheap prints when you compare them to normal cards.

Promo cards are actually ever so slightly wider and have a different print so they feel stiffer. Without a sleeve i can actually tell where my promos are in my deck, not easily but i can.

With a sleeve theres no issue though.

Well I like them ? They sure are not as “practical” as normal language cards, but they’re cool. And that’s pretty much why I play SW:D ?

The more recent FFG swag cards have been much closer in look / feel to the "normal" cards than the older swag cards. Not sure what changed or if it'll be a permanent one. I'd need to go back and play with my loot but I think I've observed it on Destiny and Imperial Assault.
