Casual list for first event tomorrow

By Snowmandan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all!

TL;DR: I need the best list I can make with just a force awakens core set, a tie regular fighter expansion and the imperial aces set for my first event at my local game store. The list I built as a framework is below the wall of text you can skip or not if you like. For those interested continue reading though.

I used to play 40k in my parents basement back in the day and I've been craving some tabletop gaming that won't quite require me to sell a kidney to get into.

After taking interest in X-wing I bought the force awakens core set with my girlfriend a couple weeks ago. I love it, she hates it hahaha so I am going to have to take to my local gamestore to find games (thought it would be that way so it's all good)

Since buying the core set I've gotten Imperial aces and a regular tie fighter expansion. I've spent all I can spend this pay period on x wing. I wanted to go to a casual event tomorrow at a local game store. So using those components I wanted to build the most viable squad possible. Not looking to win the entire event or anything. Just have some fun and mitigate how hard I'll get stomped by more experienced players with access to more ships and cards than me.

Put to together this swarm list as a framework. The logic behind having the opportunist on the Saber Squadron Pilot is that on a lower pilot skill ship the opponent might spend their token earlier in combat before he fires giving him more chance to use it than if it were on another ship. Everything else should be pretty straightforward.

"Howlrunner"(20) ["Howlrunner"(18), Swarm Tactics(2)]

Tetran Cowall(25) [Tetran Cowall(24), Determination(1)]

Saber Squadron Pilot(25) [Saber Squadron Pilot(21), Opportunist(4)]

Epsilon Squadron Pilot(15) [Epsilon Squadron Pilot(15)]

Epsilon Squadron Pilot(15) [Epsilon Squadron Pilot(15)]

Any feedback of advice would be great. Even someone willing to tear apart the entire list and build something better with the components I have would be great.

So, I have a slightly odd suggestion:

Howlrunner (Determination, Shield Upgrade)

Royal Guard Pilot (PTL, Title, Hull + Shield Upgrades)

Omega Squadron Pilot (PTL, Hull Upgrade)

Epsilon Leader (Hull Upgrade)

This is a dedicated jousting list. You want to fly them all close to Howlrunner, who gives rerolls, and Epsilon, who clears stress when needed. They can all pull reds if necessary, but for the most part, they have complementary dials. The Guard and Omega are your heavy hitters - they can use their PTL to Focus/Evade, providing great versatility.

You know, really like the sounds of this list! I know you're the first submission, but if no one can top this I will probably fly this list.

I bought the packs I did more out of what was available at my game store than the ones I wanted. I was looking at an all first order four ship build before and this really reminds me of that build, but not all first order ships. I like all the hill and sheild upgrades too. It will make all the ships a lot less flimsy. Thank you!

This is pretty simple but uses all of your ships:

PILOTS

“Howlrunner” (18)

Epsilon Squadron Pilot (15) x 2

Royal Guard Pilot (26) x 2
TIE Interceptor (22), Opportunist (4)

I would fly them in a staggered squadron of 5, the 2 Epsilons in front, and then the 2 Royal Guards flanking Howlrunner on each side in the back. Use the Opportunist on the first run through to really pack punch with them + Howlrunner's reroll.

Sometimes, when you're new, simple is good. It's can be a lot to keep track of tons of different pilot abilities and special cards.
