Top Gunboat.
It's Top Gun, but in the Imperial Academy.

Top Gun is a train wreck? What the **** is wrong with you man? It’s a classic!

Undead Wampas. Zombie Wampas!
I'm down for some Zompas.

Fixed that for you. Everyone knows a Star Wars Top Gun should be based on the Imperial Academy.

The showrunners run out of source material, and run out of ideas? Funny that.
Guys... Remember all the good things about GoTs story are there from Grrm.
What the showrunners added is:
- overused violence and nudity
- some great casting choices
- great music
- crappy storylines when they had to make up something
- and as of season 6, without the help of the books, completely random events happening, breaking the immersion.
I have a feeling this won't be as good as thrones and thrones is barely acceptable as of late. It lacks a strong narrative the showrunners seem incapable of providing.

GOT has been using far less nudity than it used to. As far as a spin-off I’d like to see the story of The First Men, how they built the wall, the origins of the dead king. All that stuff.

The spin offs will probably be his Dunk and Egg stories he's already written. They are pretty good.

I really liked the (latest) season of GoT they wrote and produced on their own without Martin's books as a gospel reference. Obviously he was still involved for the overall story, but that would be the case with LFL too.
It could be good for Star Wars.
Martin has been heavily involved in making all the seasons. Personally, they almost lost me 2 seasons ago as it was so much worse than the books. Remember that all that nudity and detailed sex is from the tv show, not the books.
I'm sure these guys learned a lot about making a sci to movie in exotic locations with costumes and special effects. Don't forget that Martin's world has a lot of cannon to it, as well. I think they can do good.
I could get into a rated R Star Wars series! Violence and a little nudity would be fine. You know you all wanted to see Jabba’s dancer topless!
I want to see some more Vader violence!

^This.
I don't know why people are even considering that choosing these guys will translate the argument of GoT to the StarWars franchise.
They have only adapted the books to a TV series script.

To an HBO tv show, which makes a difference. I'm sure the HBO execs were pushing the sex stuff when the books only mention it. Disney won't be doing that.

The only reason this works with marvel related properties is because they still have the single source point that is the comics. But eventually they will surpass those writings.

Maybe the Filoni team gets to write the plot . ;-)

We all know that this here is canon...
Moreover, As long as they do not make a series about the time between Jedi and Awakens, im fine with it... it's becoming a sh*tt* trend doing that kind of narration... give us something like the canon rendition of KOTOR or the yuzhong vong or Shadows of the Empire. Make Han's saying 'Its true, all of it' become the new slogan for the series.
To anyone asking for Top Gun in Star Wars: keep in mind that it is actually a secret sports movie featuring planes.
It's a competition for a championship, and the protagonist is the underdog against the very obvious cad that ends up actually winning the competition.
I'm not sure it would translate so well to Star Wars.

I thought they were trying to go more real world with the series. A message that good guys don’t win regardless how cheeky and can make mistakes that cost lives seems about right to me ?
Plus I’d love to see Soontir Fel (Iceman) school Han Solo (Maverick) and wash him right out of the academy.

Explain to me how Top Gun is good. Please, I'm dying to hear how a film centered around a character who does nothing but endanger his comrades around him, and never actually develops or learn that he's wrong, is a good film. I really hate Maverick because he's just...
Maverick is just a horrible, horrible character.
You know what perplexes people? I love flight, planes in general, and they always go, "Wow you must really love Top Gun then!"
Nope. Can't stand it. Boring on the whole and about an utterly unlikable guy. Even his sweet, sweet beach bodyy can't save him.

The soundtrack and the action. If you think those aren't enough, take away the John Williams' score and the space battles of Star Wars.

At least you're left with decent characters.
Frankly, Star Wars can really no longer be just a kids franchise.
The original fans of star wars are now all middle aged adults. They want grittier more "adult*" film and shows to watch.
*adult =/= sex and nudity. It just means more mature themes and story lines, which could include sex and nudity in a proper context.
So I think an HBO series for star wars would be good for the franchise as a whole.
