Let’s think of ways to help the Empire
Crew. Imperial strategist. 2 points. At range 1-3 choose 1 ship that pilot skill becomes 12 until the end of the round
A modification that allows for defensive rolls against splash damage and bombs.
Give Firesprays a general buff, and Imperial ones a special buff.
They need something to reflect the proper training their pilots all go through. It makes no sense that generic random idiots in scum/rebels can outfly the snot out of an academy graduate.
Should just introduce a new slotless upgrade thats empire only to reflect this training. Given that most of the imp ships simply dont have upgrade options TO BEGIN WITH its a good move in more ways than one.

Squadron mechanics so that generic pilots help each other in combat.

Crazy idea: "the Empire" does not need help.
- Ships with high defensive variance need a comeback.
- Auto damage and non-variable defense needs to be toned down.
- out-of-arc shots and defense needs to be adjusted (e.g. no primary bonus for range 1 out of arc, standard additional die for out of arc defense)
- ... (and many more)
These changes would tone down primary and secondary weapon turrets. And this helps aces and high variability ships to return.
As side effect it would of course help the faction which has generally high agility values and this high defensive variability. Which is the empire, but also similar ships in the other factions. Because otherwise they are left behind.
... and the Empire could need some cool crew options, because they have Kylo, Vader and Palp at the moment, while the other factions have many more great options.
But these are two different points that should not be mixed up.

That's fair. I do think the Empire is in a pretty good position right now.
My suggestion mainly came from the idea of helping a struggling archetype within the Empire (i.e. The TIE Swarm) return. Though, to be fair, the other factions could use that kind of help too.

Good point, I should have mentioned non-missile-swarms, too. The imperial version (and A-Wings) overlaps with the mentioned high-variability ships, but there are also others. Then again, the main other is Z95s or M3As, and there we have missiles as option.

How about a Mara Jade card that doesn't suck?
The Empire should get sole access to Doctrine upgrade cards that affects all of their ships on the board.
Swarm Doctrine - Reduce the cost of each of your ships by 1 point. 0 Points
Elite Doctrine - Increase the Pilot Skill of each of your ships by 1. 3 Points
The Emperor - Same as old Palp, but off board. 12 Points
