Definitely. I would actually not mind a Hutt Commander. Maybe grakkus? There are also black sun troops, old man Maul, the pyke syndicate, and I am guessing a lot of options from the new solo movie. Heck even Maz! She had been running her joint for 1000 years!

I’m not sure if I’d want Ewoks in this game. Yes, they’re a big part of a big battle in the OT, but it could get silly real fast. They would be a perfect release for a campaign expansion, but it just doesn’t make sense even in Star Wars to have Intergalacric Ewok commando units fighting Darth Vader anywhere but Endor. They’re not a race like Wookiees where they’re integrated into the galaxy, and could conceivably be found anywhere doing anything.

There are a score or more of far more appropriate aliens that could be added to the rebel faction, and even to the notoriously human centric Empire in the form of bounty hunters and mercenaries that could be found fighting all over the galaxy.

I do agree that there are lots of other aliens to be incorporated into the game, even if just part of a squad like the Duros (and all the near humans I plan to insert into Rebel squads with paint ).

However I think your first argument is slightly deflated by the variant Stormtroopers such as Snowtrooper. As Snowtrooper equipment is specialized for frozen planets like Hoth, it entails heaters, insulation, and ice boots all of which would either be useless or even harmful in other environments, such as Tatooine. The opposite is true for Sandtroopers (should FFG deem them different enough in modeling for representation in Legion).

Actually, insulation and internal climate control would be useful in both cold and hot areas. Think about astronauts. They go from incredibly hot when they are in direct sunlight to incredibly cold when they move behind the space station into a shadow. I like to view the snow troopers (and yes it's just my own personal head canon) as extreme environment specialists. They could operate on an ice world, a sun blasted world, a world with acid rain, etc.

Mind if I steal this explanation for my own board/army? Because I like the diversity of units but in no way intend on building a snow/ice board.

Astronauts are also in an environment where bleeding heat is INCREDIBLY difficult as space itself is a great insulator due to the lack of material to receive the heat energy (air). However, Star Wars is hardly "hard" sci-fi, so I understand for both of us mixing real world and Star Wars science isn't really productive, especially as there is a canon example of people walking on an asteroid likely too small to generate an atmosphere with just facemasks. Not to mention all the space noise

Eventually insulated material will heat up which is one of the problems faced when building houses in deserts.

A trooper that is trained in multiple environments would require specialized training for each environment, with each set of training taking similar lengths of time. Each loss would therefore be significantly more costly than that of a trooper only trained for a singular environment. Not that training is really evidenced externally

I don't see the empire being too concerned about budgetary matters. They were formed from a republic that was willing to borrow itself into oblivion and spend ridiculous amounts of money to build a custom clone army. I would imagine that the formation of the empire and the nationalizing (imperializing?) of production would only increase the free flow of credits towards the imperial military. Anyways! I think there are some good ways to write off snowtroopers as being a little more universal than their portrayal in the movies. I know some people are using the old galactic marine livery. I for one will be painting them all white (like a good imperial trooper!) but basing them on grass.

But then you have logistics of special troops in certain areas. Not all planets are going to be singular biosphere, many will be bio-diverse, like the earth. If you have a system with all biospheres, you only have X amount of troops you can send to certain locations? Could create"a crap I would love to stop this uprising, but I sent all my cold troops down and now I just aqua trained troops in speedos for replacements" situation. But it doesn't matter as stated earlier, this is not hard Sci-Fi, and either solution would work. I do side with the specialized troops myself. The Clonewars showed us Galactic Marines in cold weather gear, they were just Marines and not Snow Marines, so maybe the clones were cross trained, but Stormtroopers it was as cheap/easy/reliable.

Bio diverse planets are the exception, not the rule, in Star Wars (I think Naboo is the only planet coming close to true biodiversity of the canon worlds?). If they want a scene on a particular biome, that's the whole planet. Again, hard sci-fi this is not.

Budget less so than manpower honestly, given how many planets they needed to keep a military presence on. Regardless, there is always the old "The bureaucracy screwed up and now the 203rd Arboreal Troopers are freezing their rear ends off on Hoth while the 302nd Snowtroopers are sweltering on Kashyyyk" excuse .

The Forest Moon of Endor is what we see in RotJ, it orbits a gas giant planet called Endor along with eight other moons.

The systems are also weirdly named to make things even more of a headache, and early canon had it where whatever job a species was first shown fulfilling was the primary job of their species (Twi'leks are all dancing girls or ugly toady men, Jawas are all scrappers, Hutts are all crimelords, Bothans are all spies, Bith are mostly musicians, etc, etc). Again, totally not hard sci-fi, and the lore is sometimes inconsistent. For the most part though, in order to force space travel in the stories, if they want a different biome, rather than travel to a different part of a planet, they travel to a different planet.

Ugh. This. I hated this so much. An entire race boiled down to one thing. Or how particular characters were experts at whatever you saw them doing. Wedge isn't just a pilot, hear the best pilot. Boba Fett isn't just a bounty hunter, he's the best bounty hunter. That one sand person who knocks out like isn't just a hunter, he's the best hunter... It's a part of Star wars culture I really don't like.

Not that I really want to get into too much of a discussion about it, but one thing I really like that in SOME ways Disney/FFG has tried to change, at least as far as the races are concerned. Twi'leks have more representation as things OTHER than dancing girls (pilots (Rebels), bounty hunters (EotE beginner game)) and a Duros as a member of an infantry squad are the two examples I can think of off hand. Plus the new race, the Abednedo were distinctly NOT shoehorned into a single profession.
