Messing with Scum

By Ronu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Imperial player but challenged to play something different. So tossing this out. Probably going to hav a large based ship so figured the Kimo might be easier to get the bullseye arc on one of those.

That Torani is interesting. Admittedly, not how I would normally build her - I like VI on her, and R4 Agromech for a little bit of punch. VI leverages her Sophie's Choice ability much more effectively. But I think your PTL build has potential.

Now Dalan... in the SV, I don't think he's super strong - especially not without VI. His ability is about last minute adaptation, but these days, at a max of PS 8, adapting isn't likely to be very effective. Additionally, Expertise and his ability are blatantly anti-synergistic

You could keep Torani, or you could use Kimo Dalan instead.

Then, you could use Guri or Thweek in the first SV.

Here's my suggestion, keeping as true to your ideas as I feel I can:

Torani (exactly as you have)

Thweek (SV Mk. II, Virago, FCS, AT)

Guri (Intensity, SV Mk. II, AT)

I'm mostly with @Greebwahn , except I want PTL on Guri. I'd drop either Contraband Cybernetics or downgrade to the Kimogila Dalan Oberos (Boost/BR into a Bullseye for a TL is pretty sweet in theory, possibly really hard on the table).

If you think ps will be a problem i would definitely put vi or adapt on Torani. Torani benefits a lot from moving last and shooting first.

I like that people are using the StarViper again! Is Xizor gotten any better? or is it still just mainly Guri and Thweek?

Guri and Thweek are just straight up stronger than Xizor, as it stands

Xizor is the highest PS Starviper who can take Push the Limit, and that's not nothing. The moves a PTL starviper can do are impressive, and even better when you have PS up on opponents. Xizor doesn't get you that much higher than anyone else, but it is a little higher.

That said, I keep meaning to field him instead of Thweek, but never get around to it.

But you have to be rolling a buddy super close to make use of Xizors ability. It's not impossible, but is a pain when your opponent kills your buddies first and you never get to use that ability.

I found this illustrative for the Prince:

I need to apologise to Xizor, I have been nothing but critical of his ability in previous articles, but it actually came in very handy over the weekend, sure it’s not used often, but passing off a crit to a ship with a shield once in a while it was totally game changing. I finally get him. It’s not an ability you use all the time, but it is a strong ability in the right context. (When passing off the I’ll Show you the Darkside triggering crit for example.) I may even let him have his Virago back.

This was the blog post which inspired me to start flying Starvipers. Basically, Xizor is nice, but it's not something you build your list around. More like Leebo, who probably triggers like once every other game or so, but is always good when you get to use it.
