Worlds: IA is now a Wednesday-slotted game

By ryanjamal, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Yeah, this is rough since IA is the game I care the most about. Flying from Europe isn't cheap, and having to take almost a full week of vacation is a lot. If I do come, I may as well play X-wing too, even though I haven't played in over a year. Who knows, maybe my beloved Whisper/Imperial Aces will fare better than when I last played in the Dengaroo meta :P

Depends... are they finally going to have bleed tokens at Worlds? ?

I wouldn't count on it haha. Bleed is just a figment of your imagination!

Even without the prizes, a vassal tournament just isn't the same as sitting across from your opponent and all the other small things that go with playing a live tournament.

Couldn't agree more! Just trying to make light of the annoying situation.

Harmuph.

Harmuph indeed.

I'm pretty unhappy about the scheduling.

But I don't think they are trying to kill the game, they're just trying to juggle lots of things happening all at once with the 3 different flights for Destiny and X-Wing.

I think it's actually a plus we aren't be relegated to the Raddison anymore. That's something, right?

Some of my favorite memories are from that 4 player free for all last year. Getting to make alliances and betray friends new and old, doing 14 damage to @ThatJakeGuy's IG-88 only to have @Masterchiefspiff's chopper fly across the map on a mission to ram him for the last damage XD

I share all the same sentiments, except that I liked being in the Raddison. I was comfy, it was roomy, somewhat private, water and bathrooms were plentiful... looked like a hassle to FFG staff though.

It's the little known IG-88E model that pursued a life of hedonism rather than Bounty Hunting or fomenting a droid revolution.

Maybe some day when the game goes the way of SWLCG we can all plan our own tournament. SWCCG does it... Decipher lost its license in 2001 but the world championships is run by fans and had 50+ people last year. They make new cards too as PDFs to cover old game text with the new stuff.

Currently, I feel bad for everyone who can’t make it and think it sucks that some of the best and most active players won’t be at the World Championships.

As frustrating as the schedule is, and as someone that was hoping to do LCG and IA, I do understand the conflicts they run into with this many games at various popularity. X Wing and Destiny are going to be the big players every time and the other games will be the 'second choice games.' Many of us look at IA as our #1 but that doesn't serve the greater number. Also, boycotting is only going to perpetuate the idea that they shouldn't support the game with OP. If we want to organize side events outside of what they are running, that might actually show them that there is a need for more attention to this amazing game.

For what it’s worth, I’m still planning to go but I’ve got two students who we have to all three get lotto tickets if any of us are going to be able to though. Since they’re half my argument for getting time to go ;)

I want to make it work, but mid-week is just harder. Time off work shouldn’t be too hard, but I have to restart negotiations with my wife. This is a tougher sell than I expected.

If you are just going for IA, I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about getting in.

I'm not expert, but I don't think it works that way. I thought each requested game ticket was a basic lottery. There are no points or other criteria they would look from the way I understand it. Although I wish they would.

IA events (especially ones in the middle of the week) are highly unlikely to fill up. There's a ton of space. Everyone is likely to get in that wants to play.

I’m with ya on this. Theoretically. It’s just hard knowing all the negotiations I’ve made at home/work etc. to even get to the point of “I can go and it’s because I got this group together”, to then there’s the next step that’s completely out of my control. Nobody’s fault just not a fun state of mind at the moment *shrug*

Last year I had three computers up at the same time to click and buy our three tickets because I was worried all the planning would be for naught. We got it and the tourney didn’t sell out in end but I also have to wonder how much of that is owed to it being only six months from the last Worlds and arguably a lot of internationals weren’t ready/able to come back that quickly?

I know you were probably looking for that joke but I had to do it anyway. Congrats on turning this into a Futurama thread.

I was hoping to play Armada as well, but seems that is out, my buggest concern now is, I was going with some Danish Destiny players, but they seem to being able to go just for the weekend if they want, and I have to go from Tuesday till Thursday evening or friday morning hmmmm.

Well booked my guaranteed seat so wil just have to look at prices for flight and hotel now, maybe someone will have room for a Danish IA player to share a room.

I booked my guaranteed seat too but am waiting to find out if I win the X-wing lottery before making a decision. If I do decide to go I'd be happy to share a room (actually, I probably won't go unless I'm able to split the hotel costs with someone :P)

Lets talk more after the weekend, when I know what the Destiny guys are doing
