Well, we’ve been relegated to the bottom of the barrel. IA swiss rounds are Wednesday and then top 16 are on Thursday.

This seriously damages my chances of going :-/

Yeah, I would really like to know what the thinking is behind this? Do they want the size of the tournament to get smaller and die off?

I mean the state of the game right now is the best it's ever been for a large scale tournament and to have this announcement that the game has to be on the worst time slot of the week and to have the 4 player side event scheduled the exact time basically of the top 16 cut too. It sure seems like a flat out statement about how much they care about having an IA tournament.

I guess on the upside: with fewer people able to make it, it’ll probably be easier to make top 16 now for those who can ?

I would actually think more people would want to play since now it doesn't conflict with X-Wing.

I'm grateful for getting such details before spring at least. With my favorite game SWLCG on the way out. Looks like IA unfortunately may be FFG's newest red headed step child?

But a game must be pigeon holed into Wednesday, hopefully they rotate year to year. And from what I've casually noticed before, side events are usually held during that game's cut. But yeah, this schedule isn't optimal for me either. Looks like Destiny is taking over and Legion hasn't even debuted yet.

I had the same thought, but it looks like they have 3 groups of X-wing Swiss rounds. 2 of those are on Wednesday (1A) and Thursday (1B), so I don’t buy this as a valid reason. Every time IA will be played, X-Wing will be happening simultaneously.

Hopefully I can make this work, but I'm not optimistic.

It'll be the first time I missed it in 4 years and I was really looking forward to getting a shot at the salty runbacks from previous years. @Masterchiefspiff, I owe you one for that Strength in Numbers Rancor hosing you subjected me to

I totally understand, I'm hoping to make it back, was really hoping for the thursday/friday schedule, but I think I can swing this...just the initial drop felt so....no good words I guess and it was a close game for sure, no idea what to play this season!

Yep, I’m out — can’t take the whole week off. And Armada is the same day, so no Armada either.

Well, this is the only way I would have been able to make it but seeing all these people I'd want to see not being able to make it does suck. I will have some major thinking to do as to whether I will participate because if I make top 16 I will have to drop because my flight is leaving Thursday afternoon.

Yeah, it didn't conflict with X-Wing in previous years, as I've always been able to play both games.

My wife wasn't happy when I told her I'd have to fly out Tuesday night and won't be back until Sunday, but I'll be there!

You can play Armada if you don't make the IA cut. I was a bit surprised Armada got 2 days of swiss, when we had more players last year than they did.

I don't think it's an anti-IA decision. I think it's a pro-Destiny decision. X-Wing is just going to dominate Worlds for the foreseeable future, but I think that FFG's decision is rooted in its motivation to promote Destiny. Just my casual, genius opinion of course.

What would be worse, splitting this between two weekends, or what we have now?

On the one hand, playing 2 games may be expensive traveling on different weekends.

But on the other hand, for the game you care about the most, taking 3-4 days off work minimum isn't a thing (perhaps more for the weekend warriors among us).

I'm of course bias to separate weekends since all I play is IA, but it is quite unfortunate so many have really tough decisions to make now.

I don't play any other FFG games, so this will definitely make me think twice about coming. I probably won't be able to stay away, but 4 vacation days is a lot..

Another thought, do we organize an IA boycott, and organize an IA world's vassal tourney? haha, just kidding......kind of

Why make the cut and side event the same time? People that want to watch some of the most exciting matches of the tournament and cheer on friends and rivals that make it and just be a general part of the community can't participate in the side event. Which also let's them be a part of the community. I want to be able to do both whether I make the cut or not. Some of my favorite memories are from that 4 player free for all last year. Getting to make alliances and betray friends new and old, doing 14 damage to @ThatJakeGuy's IG-88 only to have @Masterchiefspiff's chopper fly across the map on a mission to ram him for the last damage XD, looking at the game next to us and seeing about 100 figures on that map all at once... There had to be a better way to schedule this.

Even without the prizes, a vassal tournament just isn't the same as sitting across from your opponent and all the other small things that go with playing a live tournament.

I was hoping to try out Armada this year but that's shot down. This schedule is less than ideal to say the least. I'm going to do a lot of mumbling and grumbling before I determine whether to take a Tues-Fri trip just for Imperial Assault. Harmuph.
