The Governor's Vengeance

By Onidsen, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Alright - so this list is my attempt to maximize the effectiveness of Grand Moff Tarkin. Sovereign on a Cymoon Refit Star Destroyer seems like the obvious place to use him - guarantee the fleet command going off every round while also making sure that the various ships each get the command token they most need at the start of the turn. Ultimate token flexibility.

Intensify Firepower is the most fun choice for a fleet command, and synergizes quite well with the fickle red dice of the Cymoon. Sovereign can even enable the Cymoon to fire off the fleet command and then get a concentrate firepower token after, so that it can take an often-needed reroll. Quad Battery Turrets is a cheap and easy way to add both damage and consistency to the fire as well.

A Needa/TRC Arquitens adds more consistent long-range firepower to the list. Between the turbolasers and IF, it can guarantee 3 damage out of a single shot. With a CF dial, that can be from any arc, also. At this point, Captain Jonus seems like an auto-include. Even more dice fixing for all of these red dice, and Jonus' doesn't just fix blanks.

2xAssault Gozantis give even more long-range pinging ability. Guaranteed 1 damage on any target. It's only an annoyance, but one that stacks up over time, especially against flotillas.

To deal with squadrons, Instigator with Tua and Early Warning Systems is included. Add Ordnance Experts and External Racks to provide some anti-ship firepower, so the ship doesn't feel wasted against lists with a lighter squadron presence. 3xTIE squadrons - to be commanded by the Gozantis - can hang around the edge of the squadron bubble pinned by Instigator and start pinging away at outside squads while minimizing return fire.

The list prefers 2nd player, but with only a 5 point bid, it's not serious about it. I'm tempted to put a Strategic Advisor on the Cymoon for an extra activation to stall against last-first fleets or dedicated 2nd player fleets and give up on any chance at choosing initiative.

For objectives, Solar Corona is the least damaging blue objective, and I expect to play it the most. Contested Outpost is an obvious choice for yellow. I like Station Assault because netting an extra 80 points is good, or getting no points off of objectives while forcing an opponent to split firepower. But I can see good arguments for Most Wanted and for Opening Salvo.

Anyways, looking for feedback.

With a flagship lacking a def retro, I don't know if I would invest heavily in keeping a small base expendable ship alive. I know that ISD has bulk and is in less "one-shot" danger, but if it goes down with your 40pt admiral on board you might as well shake hands cause the game will be over.

It's Governor's Vengeance. Where's Governor Pryce?

Strat advisor would give you 6 activations.

Looks like fun!

True enough. The point of Tua on the Raider isn't for keeping it alive - it's for a squadron lock-down build. EWS neuters most bombers, and makes even B-wing or Scurrg attacks survivable. Instigator pins them in place. Then the Raider and a couple TIEs go to town on it.

Strategic Advisor is definitely tempting me. Governor Pryce is just too expensive right now. Could potentially drop the Needa Arquitens down to QBT instead. That gives me 4 extra points to play with. Might be worth including her.

I hate that Tarkin is 15pts too expensive.

Single Cymoon benefits from Needa and TRC. With Intensify, that's 3 guaranteed damage no matter how bad you roll. Add H9s and you can oneshot flotillas from long range. Sniper Cymoon is the best, you don't want them too close
