It's fair to say my finger hasn't been on the x-wing pulse lately - very little foruming - no youtube batreps - nada.

Despite managing 2-3 gaming nights a week, I've regressed into a filthy casual and have recruited a couple of new, equally filthy, equally casual, local players into the game ..... until they betrayed our FC oath by booking us all on to a local store champs. wihout consulting me until after the wicked deed was done.

I feel I must avenge this betrayal by humiliating them at the tables. but I've no idea what the current hotness is.

Its pretty much Ghost/Fenn is THE list to beat if you want to WIN a tourney, your probably facing this sometime, but many many others are **** good too and there isnt anything that is just disgustingly OP at the moment. Four ship scum jank won a regionals and rebel jank almost won another. Triple Starvipers cracked top 4, so anything is possibly right now.

Harpoons are in fashion, as is the aforementioned counter to then in Kanan/Fenn. you're looking at either massive damage mitigation, high PS alpha strikes and/or classic tanks like Asajj. The three representatives at the moment are Kanan/Fenn for damage mitigation, Nu + Nu + Nu + Quickdraw for the alpha strike and Assajj + Turret for the tank category.

If you're looking to keep you FC attitude, but still trump your friends, I'd suggest a jank(ish) scum build that nobody's prepared for, but with some forgiveness built in:

Asajj is in her "timewalk" formet, where, even if she bumps a ship, gets infinite focus, a free evade, AGI 3 and drops a TL to "timewalk" to the next turn without damage. Her stress control is quite potent at the moment against the likes of Kanan/Fenn, which is utterly dependent on Fenn being stress free in the combat phase.

Viktor Hel is a nightmare to kill. Sure, you can shoot him, but he's got a better version of Rebel captive where, until you do hit him, every ship that shoots hm gains a stress. With Harpoons + GC he's got potent alpha potential, and Scavenger crane punishes your opponent both for focusing on him and leaving him alone.

Finally, Unkar is the lynchpin of the list. The ability to have an AGI 4 distuptive element, with a devastating EMP Device (gained via cikatro after cloaking) to capitalise on the stress shenanigans. His tractor beams make even the toughest of aces vulnerable to unmodified shots, disrupts bombing lists in the extreme and ruins small-base turrets like Miranda and Nym, all for 21 points.

All three ship, with the exception of Asajj, are nowhere near the meta, yet are a great counter to most of what's out there at the moment.

Quadruple Rebel Operatives is flying under the radar right now and will drive your Filthy Casuals to their doom.

Chopper+Ezra+Maul+TLT+Sensor Jammer+Phantom I Title, Phantom I Zeb+Title, Fenn+Vi+Hot Cop+FAA should knock their socks off, if you know what you're doing.

Good players are finding way to bunk the meta right now. I like how wide open things are currently.

Fly what you like and adapt your approach to what you expect to see. If you can't go have fun at a tournament, why go?
