Converting Strategic Form

I'm trying to convert Strategic Form to the system without the use of the Force dice.

When wielding a Lightsaber weapon, make a hard Lightsaber (Intellect) check, rolling Force dice no greater than Force Rating as part of the check. For each s , one target within short range of the character may only make combat checks if those combat checks target the character until the end of the following round. The character may spend 1 Force point to cause Strategic Form to affect a target for one additional round. The effects of Strategic Form end if the character is incapacitated.

Does spending aa make sense to extend the effects, taking the place of the Force point requirement, make sense?

Yes, otherwise 2 Strain for the basic effect and Advantage to extend the duration

2 strain for the basic then 1 a ?

Yep. Force Points are in essence a blend of Success, Advantage and Strain. Having the basic power cost strain gives the player more reliable control over the talent while maintaining a limit to its use. As they get a better dice pool they will roll more Advantage and be left with the choice to mitigate the Strain or extend the duration, a similar choice to choosing whether to use the dark side or not

Fair assessment.
