William O’Connor passed away

By Tabris2k, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

William O’Connor, great artist and contributor for many, many pieces of art for Legend of The Five Rings, passed away on Wednesday, at age 47.

Having worked for all kind of companies and games, such as Magic, L5R, White wolf’s various books, Dungeons & Dragons, as well as being the author of the Dracopedia serie of books, it’s a great loss for the artist community and fantasy fans from all over the world alike.

I’d like to recommend everyone not familiar with him to search and take a look to his pieces of art. I’m sure you’ll find more than one that seems familiar to you.

Advanced -> Artist -> type Connor (as Oracle display as default most recent printing, in some cases you need to open card and choose older expansions, fe Imperial Gift from base Gold only has his picture)

Seems like he painted nearly 400 pieces for CCG.

Loved his Warlord arts. He'll be missed.

Considering O'Connor's passing, that cards name seems sadly appropriate...

His art is what I missed the most during the transition to LCG. These are really sad news, he will be missed.

So young. Such a shame. He was truely talented and his art helped immerse me in the wonderful world of Rogukan. A place I've enjoyed playing and making friendships for the last 20+ years.

His distinct style helped make L5R and Warlord stand out to me visually. Going over the gallery in Oracle takes me back to when I began back in Gold. I don't mean this as a slam against any other card artists, of the time or present, but it really says something about his style that you can immediately recognize him as the artist on first glance. Truly unique and will be missed.

Fantastic guy. At the end of Gold Edition, I was at Gencon, just another lowly L5R player, and Will was nice enough to spend nearly an hour hanging out with myself and a friend of mine. We even cracked open a box of Winds of Change, and not only did he sign my foil Shinjo Xushen Xp and Akodo Tadenori Xp, but he even put a little '1st' on each since it was the first time he'd actually seen the cards in printed form.

A really class act, the world is lessened by his absence.
